Which is why they brought in hordes of liberal and democratic consultants to coordinate the promotion of the show.
Opposition politics sell. Ask all the radio and TV stations that aired Rush Limbaugh during the Clinton era.

I think it's too easy to see conspiracies at work when greed is the real ideology of Hollywood.

At first I cringed at Geena as the president, but the show turned up ok. The nigeria part was silly. No woman president would as stupid as to start her reign with such an obvious pro-woman action. That would just needlessly paint her whole run in the office in a certain way ..
Without looking on the Internet, I don't think most Americans can think of what George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton or George W. Bush did in their first 60 days in office, even though, in every case, there were things they did that outraged those that disagreed with them.

Four to eight years is a long time and American memories are short. Outside burglarizing the opposition election headquarters or having sex with an unattractive intern, I think very few things end up painting a whole run, as a rule.

The ads for it made it seem like the first show was going to be all about folks freaking that a woman became president. How is that even possible? I mean, we have a black female secretary of state, and most of us lived through Maggie Thatcher running the UK. There are lots of women in Congress. How realistic is it that folks would freak out over her gender? That strikes me as a stupid Hollywood view of Washington.

More like the phobia we Americans have of women being in charge.... especially of the country.

I liked it even though it did seem rushed at points. The beginning. The Nigerian thing. That black dude turning around from disliking her to supporting her. Templeton is seemingly being set up to be a nasty "villian".

A friend of mine disliked it. Here's his comments: "commander in chief was a disapointment. i really had high hopes for it. instead they dropped the ball. the thing with nigeri realy needed alt of wrk. that woulnd't have happened that wya. the would have just shot her and said she commited sucide or something. or they would have had stingers standing by and shot the helios down." (I left in all his typos, pasted it verbatim from his IM to me)

I hope it smooths out in the longer run and can survive the ratings war. The pilot could've been a 2-hour one and probably explained more than what they did show. Fleshed things out more.

Just like all alpha state materials, there are slips...but hopefully, as you say here, that it can get better. For me, it is a provocative thought for a possible future. And also said here, in this thread. The world has seen the share of Women leaders around the world.

True.

But not here.

This isn't the first show to feature a female president. I seem to recall a show back in the 80's with a lady president, I think the show was mostly to follow how her husband and what he did.

And its not like there has never been female leaders, Margaret Thatcher comes to mind. India and the Philippines have had ladies in charge to. And through out history there have been a few to.

I may not have have the same politcal views as the show potrays but the idea of female president is not something alien to me.

Me either...but if you ask a well entrenched career politician about having a lady for president.

You may get a roundabout answer... ;)

I've always felt (since I first heard they were going to make this show) that it was a "get the audience used to the idea of President Hillary Clinton" propaganda piece.

Johnathan

My thoughts exactly.

I hate all these President shows, it is too damn easy for them to throw in their own political propaganda.

Since they're promising a Democratic villain in the immediate future, I think it's probably a good third party propaganda piece more than anything else.

Or, maybe, just maybe, it's pure entertainment and not a sekrit political brainwashing tool.

Everyone has an opinion and an agenda. Every writer puts in his world views into the stuff he is writing.
