Community and Thankfulness

I recently watched Matt Colville's long video about finding an online community in the TTRPG space, and I wanted to share a thought I had. I am grateful for the ENWorld Community. There are many, many, many spaces to talk about TTRPGs with people on the internet, but in most that I've found, the toxicity is off the charts: people go out of their way to be complete jerks about...everything. The pettiness and bullying is just off the charts, and I have found that I can get sucked right into that if I let myself. Facebook and X are the worst. So as I thought about Colville's analysis of online communities, how to find them, how to create them, and how to be a good citizen if you are in one, I wanted to say thank you to ENWorld and the many thoughtful, helpful, and kind people I've chatted with here. This is a bright corner of an often-times dark fandom. I appreciate you all! Thanks for letting me participate.

A happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate. Be well.

I knew ENWorld was cool, but I didn't know that Facebook is that bad. I guess I could have assumed as much about Xwitter.

Thanks for participating, and for helping me appreciate ENworld even more!

This site seems to be the only one I visit regularly and contribute to. I enjoy the people and the willingness to help others with questions. Thank you all.

I feel that I quieted my self over the last couple years. Some threads I would have made a comment in might not be helpful or in the best spirit, so I have been trying to just stay quiet and let the others contribute. Some threads might not be my game or style, so I skip them or see early that I should not comment. The whole yuk and yum thing of letting go and not needing to be right.

Just watched the entire video myself and was really moved by it. Mandatory viewing for anyone online and a part of the hobby IMO. I've been reflecting on the mistakes I've made online over the years and also the reasons I've left other communities and it all seems to jive with Matt's observations.

Thankful for ENWorld as well. The first thread I remember stumbling on was Quesquenton's review of the Forset Oricale (I can't believe it's been 20 years!) and how it brought me and my officemates to tears (from laughing, of course!). RPGs have been the center of my life since I was old enough to read and greatful for a community I can talk about them with.

And, a special thanks to the mods; your patience and transparancy is unmatched. I realize I can be a square peg trying to pass through a round hole at times and appreciate the feedback on how to round my edges off a bit. Silly analogies aside, the lessons go beyond these forums and I feel like I'm a better person because of it.
