Or you could call him an Hashishim. You know...

And make them merciless killers that are known to giggle a lot without reason and, in extrem cases, fall over? :D

Feh, ninjas. Why must it always be ninjas?

Hm... Because every "complete" book has an oriental class, and if you think about "roguish, oriental base class", what comes to mind? I mean, beside ninja.

They cannot really use the Rokugan ninja, since they had to make a portion of the book OGC then. The ninja was not in Oriental Adventures, but in Rokugan.

I know it was in Rokugan. I remember their reasoning back then, not to put a ninja in OA. Something about a ninja not being something you just do, you have to train for it. But I love the rokugan ninja just for the fuss the full BAB sneak attacker created :D Ok, that was wrong, I don't like the class just because of that.

I only hope that it won't be a "mere" rogue with arcane spellcasting. ;)

Hm... I have a feeling that he won't be a thief WITH spells, but a thief OF spells, taking spell knowledge out of another spellcaster's reportoire.

They probably didn't used the same recipes as the current pot-smokers do... Hashishim is the root word for assassin, after all.

Just like the Thags are the origine of the word thug.

(Is Shinobi the root word for ninja?)

I was really hoping that they'd do a remake of the assassin class from First Edition, specifically an Assassin Class that DOESN'T have spell casting.

I agree. I hope that there is a decent non-spellcasting assassin in there just as I also hope that the scout makes a good non-spellcasting ranger.

PS: Apologies for editing the quote to correct your spelling.

Spellthief - sounds really intriguing.
Maybe something like the Spellfilcher from Complete Elf. :)

Especially good at detecting and circumventing magical traps and the likes.

Because pirate doesn't fit the theme!

P.S. Why doesn't pirate fit the theme, anyways?

Hence the ninja-related prestige class in OA. I don't know what the problem with the Ninja class itself is, though. It's not really that different from the Unfettered from Arcana Unearthed; I remember clearly comparing the two when looking for a swashbuckler class for my homebrew.

Huh; according to my dictionary you're right. I had always heard that thugee was the root of thug.
