Complete Adventurer & Races of Destiny Prestige Classes (from Sharn)

Re: war dogs.

I can just picture it. The horde of halfling war dog riders converging on the goblin lines. At the last moment, the goblins throw bright orange rubber balls and scream "Go get it boy!" and the horde of halfling war dog riders dissolve into pandemonium...

Well, still better than riding into battle on horses I guess. Who would be afraid of those?

This is probably just MotW's Tamer of Beasts revised.

A little disappointed to see no King/Queen of the Wild, but I suppose the 3.5e DMG's Horizon Walker supplants that PrC.
Or they just didn't think that Tarzan was a good character concept in New York/Sharn.

The Windrider badly needs an update to workmore like the revised Paladin or Druid with respect to the mounts available. Unfortunately, it would have to have an exhaustive list or guidelines for making your own for balance reasons, and I'm not certain that WotC is up for that. I would have suspect that it would be in CW or CD (it being a combat-based class with divine spells), but failing that it may still appear in an environment book. I've been keeping track because I do play a Windrider in Living Greyhawk, and will probably have to change to something else.

Based on that, the Skylord in Book of Exalted Deeds might be the update to the Windrider. Nothing says that classes from the "splatbooks" must be updated specifically in this series.

That's correct. Libris Mortis has a few updated PrCs from Tome & Blood as well as Defenders of the Faith. Similiarly, Races of Stone has updated versions of PrCs previously seen only in long-out-of-print issues of Dragon Magazine.

As Libris Mortis proved. But the Skylord is a quite different class than the windrider (as I remember, a windrider is not required to choose a flying mount, for one, and it is certainly not restricted to elves). Then again, the CW Exotic Weapon master was quite different from the MotW one, as well.

And lordy, riding dogs haven't gotten any less goofy since 3.0 first hit the streets. I seriously don't understand what the issue is with warponies. :(

Another thing to keep in mind is that, from a 'munchkin' standpoint, Ponies can't Trip.
