Complete Adventurer - sounds good

To me:

Complete warrior was a great book, which truely supplimented combat for all classes. While there was a minor focus on melee and ranged combat, the spells, feats and some prestige classes were also ideal for classes with an alternative niche.

Complete Divine was a poor follow-on, very heavily focussed on druids, paladins and clerics (count the number of feats that don't require turning or wildshaping?). Frankly it was terrible.

If complete arcane follows on from complete warrior (in that it has feats, classes and items which benefit those that don't use spells, and also those using divine spells), then it will be a great book. If it's just an expanded wizard spell list and a bunch of PrC's, then I think it will have failed.

Personally I think that the complete divine and complete arcane books could have survived being combined into a single book, covering magic of all types. The wild feats would then have to be moved to complete warrior or complete adventurer (depending on combatative or non-combatative nature).

I doubt that it will be possible to fall into that trap with complete adventurer: EVERYONE uses skills and feats, even the fighter. I'd like to see some feat choices in it that make the fighter a more viable adventurer.

My main problem with the CD (besides TERRIBLE editing and typos) was that some of the options it gave to Clerics means that the fighter becomes obsolete. Spells mainly.

Complete Adventurer hopefully will restore the Fighter, when combined with CW, to their rightful place.

Ah, who am I kidding. I'll be buying it.

You needed the Complete Divine to do that? Odd, I thought that happened with just the PHB! ;)

Cheers!

I'll be buying CA(dventurer) and CA(rcane). I haven't liked CW or CD, but I liked enough of each to make it worth having on hand. I'll assume it will be the same with these two books. A lot of useless PrC's, etc..., but enough to make it worth having.

MerricB, I'm curious...are there any WoTC products you don't like?

I don't mean this as an insult or an attack, but your name has sprung up a few times in the posts I've happened to read over the past couple weeks, and it occurred to me that I can't recall ever reading a post of yours that hasn't been glowingly positive toward WoTC products.

I'm intrigued by the idea of a scout class, as that type of thing is something I've wanted to play for a long time. Never quite gotten the right feel from combinations of fighter, rogue and ranger. I s'pose I'll have to wait and see like everyone else. :p

Thanks for the heads up!
Ditto!

That's what I thought. :(

So far, I have no valid reason to bump this up on my must-have list.

I'll wait for Complete Expert.

Ranger REG, I think that what the person you quoted meant was that the Complete Adventurer IS the "Complete Expert" for which you so patiently wait. It's going to be exactly the same sort of thing: a focus on the non-combat, non-spellcasting skill-using side of the game. It WILL be the rogue/bard "must-have" book, and I, for one, will be glad to have both Complete Arcane and Complete Adventurer.

For then, you see, my Complete collection will be...

complete.
