Complete Arcane advance info?

Sounds like a decently solid book. If pattern holds true, I'll be replacing one of the core classes with a base class from the book (not so intentional, but it's working out that way). I've dropped Paladin, Sorcerer, and Monk.

I added Swashbuckler from CW, which acts as "another kind of fighter".

I was trying to turn the Druid into an anamist flavor, so the Spirit Shaman seemed a shoe-in -- the only thing I'm missing from Druid is the Wild Shape ability, but that's mostly because I like the Shifter PrC from MotW.

I like the sounds of the Warlock, because I've been trying to come up with a similar concept, flavor-wise. It would fit nicely into the niche I wanted Sorcerer to fill.

Dunno what's the others are in 'Adventurer', but I don't much care for the base idea of the Spellthief. Hopefully, one of the other two can step into the space left by the Monk. Ideally, there would be a nicely tuned Noble class.

I will be very disappointed if the Alienist doesn't reappear in either Complete Arcane or Codex Anathema.

Most of the other good T&B prestige classes have already reappeared, though. I would like to see the Gnome Trickster from the Dragon Annual reappear, though. I also wouldn't mind a few prestige classes for other races -- let's see a kobold sorcerer PrC that's not the dragon disciple, for instance.

Just to remind everyone

ENERGY SUBSITUTION IS GOING TO BE IN COMPLETE ARCANE!!!!

Sources: Dragon 324 (Sorcerer feat selection) and 325 (Art of War articile reprints in "from complete arcane")

This is 100%

On a tangent though...

CW: Hexblade, Swashbuckler, Samurai
CD: Favored Soul, Spirt Shaman, Shukenja
CA: Warlock, Warmage, Wu-Jen
CAd: Scout, Spellthief, Ninja

Interesting New class list...

Don't forget the Healer and Marshal from the Miniatures Handbook. (For my money, they're much more interesting than the Favored Soul and Warmage.)

It seems like there was a good deal of thought that went into the new classes, at least in terms of organization.

Each volume offers one class for oriental campaigns (though they're hardly a match for just picking up Oriental Adventures and/or Rokugan, but I suppose they have been updated).

Furthermore, there seems to be one generic class in each book as well. Swashbucklers, Scouts, Shamans, etc. all hark back to very basic, simple concepts which have usually just required picking up certain feats for already established classes.

Then, in a third category, there are these high-fantasy classes that don't really have any real-world counterparts...which includes Hexblades, Spellthieves, and so forth.

Of course, all of these notions are debatable, but there does seem to be a pattern so far. I've generally found myself more attracted to the second category of classes as they have far more practical and far-reaching applications.

I've noticed the same thing. I've also been adding the "generic" classes to my campaign and ignoring the others.

Is there confirmation on the list of "Complete Adventurer" base classes? I was really hoping for a Noble base class. It also doesn't seem like the Scout would be a bit reduntant. What with the more rogue-like ranger in 3.5 and the variant classes in Unearthed Arcana, it's been covered. Noble is something that doesn't exist in D&D and there has been some call for it. *shrug*
