Complete Warrior - Dervish

Someone may have asked this, but I don't see it. on page 26, under 'Dervish Dance (Ex)'

"If a dervish wields a slashing weapon while in a dervish dance, she gains a bonus on her attack and damage rolls. This bonus is ..."

next sentance, still under 'Dervish Dance (Ex)'

"A dervish may only perform a dervish dance while wielding a slashing weapon (she may use a double weapon or multiple weapons, only if both ends of the weapon or all weapons are of the slashing type)."

now the sample dervish lists the bonus as per the first quote correctly, as she is using scimitars, but the question is, can a dervish utilize the dance ability without slashing weapons as the 'If' part implies?

I assume that one of the clarifications was made after the other for balance reasons, but which one came last/is the correct one?

What do you think is the correct ruling, is the dervish too powerful and can only use the ability with slashing weapons, or should I allow one to utilize the dance on the rare occasions that come up with a non slashing weapon?

It seems to me that the intent was to allow either a slashing weapon, or no weapon at all. (I.e., a monk/dervish could dance using unarmed strikes.) The text certainly doesn't make that clear, though.

The intent seems clear to me: a dervish must use slashing weapons in a dervish dance.

You're breaking up that first conditional statement ("If a dervish wields a slashing weapon while in a dervish dance...") into two components to find your implication, but it seems clear to me that this is just a poorly written and partially redundant sentence that should be read as having just one condition: being in a dervish dance (which, by necessity, requires wielding a slashing weapon).

The flavor of the class also centers around cutting and slashing, so being able to use other weapons would be out of flavor.

I my view the Dance only work with Slash weapons.

And my question is, if he treat Scimitar like a light weapon he can't use power attack and he can't use Scimitar in two hands while using weapon finesse?

Crap. They've got a dervish, huh? Now I'll actually have to get a copy of the book to see how their Dervish stacks up against my houseruled Shivan Dervish.
