Me, I prefer Mongoos Publishing. Those Quintessential Books RULE!

I haven't read them. I only see some little tidbits - and they're all hopelessly overpovered. But that's not the topic here.

Actually, I imagine only three books

Complete Warrior, Complete Adept, and Complete Scoundrel.

Hmmm...

Maybe Complete Warrior, Complete Arcanist [wizard/sorcerer], Complete Adventurer [bards and rogues], Complete........[divine spellcasters]

Priest? Devotee? Blessed? Champion?

OR, I bet it can be just 2 books: The Complete Warrior, and The Complete Pansy

I don't know about you, but I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series. I can't wait to get my hands on the Complete Expert and Complete Commoner.

Company called Skrimmisher Publishing did a book called Experts. Nice job of expanding skills, experience points vs. time vs. skill level and other good stuff.

Any word on whether it will contain called shots and new critical hit rules?

There are rules for a few called shots in the Villain Design Handbook by Kenzer (and the book has the official D&D logo/stamp of approval on it). The rules basically cover only a few situations like aiming to blind or trying to gut, but they exist in an official capacity.

Personally, they should aim for just three books, since the last class splatbook series are just four books, compared to the earlier predecessor, the many-volume Complete Handbook series.
