Comprehensive Lava rules?

On another note, this is the second thread I've noticed heaping praise on a nigh-irrelevant portion of the ruleset. What's the joke?

There's no joke when your character is matched against lava. A need for immediate ruling, perhaps, but certainly no joke. We'll see who's laughing when YOUR character is smack dab in the path of a wave of lava and you don't know which book to consult, hm?

The rules are nice, but I'm nostalgic for the faster rules of previous editions... also some of the possible outcomes are a little ambiguous, hopefully the next version will be written more clearly.

Actually, our market research indicated that in fact, earlier versions were no faster. In time trials, we found that our playtest groups could kill an average of 4.35 PCs per game session using the new rules, compared with 3.8 PCs per game session with the earlier editions.

But we will review the outcome descriptions and make sure the language is cleaned up if we release an updated version.

You only need to know lava trumps me not once but twice. Only character I ever lost was to lava and when we retconned that cause the DM had the climb DC wrong I still wound up failing another climb check over the Lava.

Heh. Realistic lava rules would not be of any interest, because with realistic lava you die before even seeing it.

Ha! Not only do you not get a save versus lava, you automatically fail skill checks to AVOID the lava in the first place.

Note: This is only true with lava elementals, who have ninja as their favored class.
