Conan & lone wolf

Look, GMS, if you have an opinion about the Conan RPG then I will read it. If you just want to continue to take issue with me and the person who initiated this thread then save it. I've shared my opinion and the basis for it. I didn't start this thread, and I haven't started a campaign against anything or anyone.

Y'know, I was just gonna let you slink off after I called you on your obvious BS, but you had to go and ask for it:

Several times today, I've seen you be nothing but insulting to game designers, as if somehow their status as public figures makes it OK for you to be as big of a jerk as you want to be. You've ripped Bruce Baugh as "the worst designer ever" and Ian Sturrock for "unprofessional" work.

You jumped into the thread, pontificated on your opinion, singled me out specifically, and, when myself and others call you on your statements, you backpedal so fast we all can see tread-marks.

If you're done, then stay done. I, for one, am certainly done with you.

what is Lone wolf, A comic book?

A UK-based series of "find your own adventure"-style game books from the 1980s. Pretty big over there, not so big over here.

Edit: What ARP said. Damn, Patrick--you're a fast typist!

Just a quick, but amusing point - sometimes 'I am unique!' simply means that 'No one agrees with me!' Think about it.

Calling the game 'unplayable' is silly - people are playing it. The local group isn't even using house rules. There are thirty some odd players just in my little corner of the world, so unplayable is proveably untrue.

You don't have to like the game, if you don't like it don't play it - there are lots of wonderful games out there that aren't Conan. There is even a site for D20 Conan games, the table is full, there is enough green eggs and ham for everybody who wants some, and plenty of baked beans, spam, spam, spam, and spam for everyone else.

Everyone take deep breaths, hold it, release, and smile, the year is yet new.

The Auld Grump, who has been unique in just that fashion...

*EDIT* Including on his spelling of 'thrirty'...

At the risk of going off topic. . .

I am not having any luck in finding a Conan game around me (or any rpg for that matter)

I am a HUGE low magic fan. If anyone is reading this in North MS I Invite you to look at my request for players in the seeking players thread.

Working at Mongoose for most of a year will do that to a man. Deadlines. From. Hell.

I'm aware. Some of things that former employees have told me about working there set my teeth on edge. Some of which would make for very topical and interesting reading in this particular thread, in fact....

...but alas, not my tale to tell.

And don't start in on me, either. I've been at this for a quarter century and am highly educated to boot. I know what I like and what I dislike; what works for me and what doesn't; and what is a professional quality game and what isn't.

Mmm...Ad Verecundiam....yummy.

Kudos to TheAuldGrump for hitting the nail squarely on the head.

So, having and voicing an opinion makes me a jerk? Does the same hold true for you? Does agreeing with someone else's assessment of a product do the same (which is what I did by concurring with Emirikol about this game)? Man, I'm really not trying to single you or anyone else out--publisher or not. Let me say it again in a different way. I did not and do not intend to throw stones at anyone personally, but I have and will comment on a person's product when I think it is poor or when I think it is great. Don't conflate the two. When I replied to your post, I just didn't want you jumping all over me like you did Emirikol after he voiced his opinions (with which I agree). It's too late for that, I guess, and I regret it if you took it as a personal attack. It's no different than saying I don't like a particular celebrity (you know, a public figure) due to his or her acting or movies. My opinion remains my opinion based on my experience (with Conan, Gamma World or whatever). If others' experiences or opinions differ, then that's fine by me. Heck, I'm even willing to listen their opinions in case I missed something. If you and I can bury the hatchet then I'm all for that, too. But don't think I'm going to be slienced by bluster either. Otherwise, I'll just consider it that we agree to disagree and take the sound advice of TheAuldGrump. I certainly think that if our discourse becomes unproductive, then it should be discontinued.
