Concentration Checks When Casting From A Wand

Hi all,

Quick question - If you are using a wand to cast spells, do you have to make a Concentration check if you are hit while casting, just like if you were casting the spell from memory? Or is casting from a wand just a command word that doesn't really require the same level of concentration?

Nope.

Under Concentration.

"In general, if an action wouldn't normaly provoke an AoO, you need not make a Concentration check to avoid being distracted."

also under Activate Magic Items (PHB pg 142)


"Spell Trigger, Command Word, or Use-Activated Items:

Activating any of these kinds of items does not require concentration and does not provoke AoO."

There isn't anything to the contrary on using a wand to suggest otherwise. Activating a wand does not provoke an AoO.

No concentration check. However, a wand is really easy to sunder.

Cool. I thought it might be something like this but I just wanted to check. There could be a situation where a player of mine will be attacked underwater. He has a wand of Dimension Door with a couple of charges left in it. If things go bad I know that he at least has an escape option.
