Concerns for the Playtest.

I have a really big concern for the playtest that's coming up. I'm concerned that they won't actually listen to the people during the playtest. I'm not talking about actually listen to each and every opinion but if there is a genuine idea that someone puts out there, that actually corrects something, then I hope it's used. I also hope that we aren't being used just to correct spell mistakes and sentences that may be worded wrong. If the game has already been decided either way then I would rather Wizard's just say so and skip the playtest.

I want to participate in the playtest because I want to possibly make a difference in the future of the game for the better.

Anyone have any concerns?

I think there are two reasons why I would not buy D&DN: 1) if the game is not able to surpass or replicate my preferred edition (which in my case is 4th) or 2) if the playtest was sham.

I mean not everyone is going get what they like as core and there will be some issues where there will be dissatisfied minorities. But unless there is some dialogue and serious engagement with the D&D community in the beta phase then I cant see why people would buy into the edition and (more importantly) WOTC will miss out on particular sub markets in the roleplaying community. I think with 4th ed they leant the lesson that they need to capture the existing D&D membership rather than try to convert WOW players etc, who were a hypothetical market.

Also on a more positive front, the D&D community is a great resource to test ideas upon!

So I dont think they will ignore community opinion, even if not everyone will be happy with the end product.

I have my share of reservations about 5E, but at the end of the day they either will or will not do X, Y, or Z. We really won't know until it happens, so it's not going to do us much good to fret about it. This is especially true since, even if they do act on feedback, it may be the feedback that results in something you like much less than what they would have done on their own.

The current iteration of playtests for friends and family has produced a lot of change to the rules already. Numerous play testers have confirmed this including Piratecat. A few blogs have mentioned changes based on feedback, including giving turn undead back to clerics. I see no reason the open playtest should be any different.
The only worry I have is if Hasbro decides to shorten development time to speed release. I don't think D&D Next is that much of a priority for Hasbro middle management though.

Since WOTC has done playtesting at the "big" cons, is doing the open public playtest, more than they have ever done in the past. So why are you doubting thier motives? What reasons makes do you have?

If you don't wish to participate in the playtest then do not so. I suspect you are just doom-saying & fear mongering for no valid nor real reasons. So explain your reasons please, Or are just trolling.

I'm curious, what did you think of the Pathfinder playtest?

The playtest went "alright" in my opinion. I know there were some things that were changed and then there were others that got ignored even though there were some playtesters who told them to change it.

Wizards has never done a mass playtest like this before, Cons do not count like the poster above mentioned.

My greatest concern is that for every great playtest comment I give (and let's face it, I'm a genius) there will be someone else (and let's face it, other people are idiots) who will say the opposite. And then WotC (let's face it, a heartless, money-grabbing corporate machine) will ignore me (let's face it, they can't see true genius) and go with the hoi polloi (let's face it, they're many, uncivilized, and loud). And in the end, 5E will be nothing like my great vision, but I'll buy it anyway because I'm a hopeless fanboy who can't resist ordering nerdy products priced under his impulse buy barrier.
