Confused about wand creation

On page 246 of the 3.5 DMG it states that the market price of a Wand of Fireball(Caster Level 5) is 11,250 gp. Assuming the market price is the same as the base cost, I would divide that number by 2 to get the cost to create it(5,625 gp) and divide by 25 to get the cost in XP(450).
However on page 284 the table there states that the base cost is the caster level * the level of the spell * 375, or 5625, and I pay 1/25 of this in XP and half in gold. This would would cost significantly less than the above method.
Which way is correct?

Base cost is the cost to craft the item - or half the market price.

EDIT: AND the XP cost is 1/25th of the market price, not the base cost. Page 287 has some more charts that make it a little clearer...

What, when, is the magic supplies cost, which is half the base cost? Do you add the magic supplies cost to the base cost to get the final amount you have to pay to make the item, or is the magic supplies cost part of the base cost?

OK, I think I got a term mixed up in there. The base cost in this instance is 11,250 gp. The Magic Supplies cost is the cost to create, or 5,625. The XP cost is 1/25th of the Base Cost.

Table 7-32 is probably in error. WoTC generally says go with the text over the table when they disagree. I'll check to see if there's any errata on this particular point.

Table 7-33

I find that when i'm making magic items, it's much easier to use table 7-33, since it's much clearer than 7-32. Look under the spell effect part, and you'll find 50 charges, spell trigger , and it lists the base price , which in this case is spell-level(3)*caster-level(5)*750= 11,250 gp. No, this is the market, or base, price of the item. Hence, to create it, you need half of the base price in materials to create the item, in this case 5,625 gp, and pay 1/25 of the base price in XP, in this case 11,250/25= 450 XP.

See. it's as easy as that :) . I find this to be the best table you can use, since it also has the foot-notes for the special cases, in case you need expensive materials or anything. There's a similar table in the Tome & Blood boo, in the magic items section, but it's pretty much the same.

Branok.
