Conjuration specialist - a good idea?

If you look for buffs that last for all summoned creatures...

Think about one level bard or cleric. Sure, you lose spellcasting abilities... but spells like Bless or the often neglected bards song rock when you got a lot of small things :D

Besides... Being able to use a wand of Cure Light Wounds is never a bad option.

If you don't mind psionics and if they are allowed in your campaign, try a Shaper psion specializing in Astral Constructs. The constructs are totally customizable and there are MANY upgrade feats that aren't meta for them in the Mind's Eye web enhancement at WotC's site. That way you are more like a sorceror then a wizard in this case. There is even a PrC based around the concept.

Mirror Image is a Personal spell - how can you cast it on summoned creatures?

Also, consider this: Cast Summon Monster III to bring in a Celestial Black Bear. Then, cast Major Image to bring in 6 more. Can the caster really concentrate on all 6 images properly to make it look like they're all real, even if they're fighting different people? Or can Major Image only bring in one more bear?

You're right... Mirror Image cannot be cast on summoned creatures.

Major Image, though, can only bring ONE more bear. From the description of Silent Image:

"This spell creates the visual illusion of an object, creature, or force."

Hmm...I'll have to consider that. I'll take a look at the Psionics book again next time I get a chance...thanks!

So what other spells can you use to make the illusion that you're fighting many more enemies than you thought?

Hmmm. Seeming (5th) and Veil (6th) will change lots of people. But I don't there's a spell that lets you create an illusion of a group of monsters.

That's weird. (Not Weird (9th)).
