construct creation

OK Boz...according the the book...the Large Wood golems get 8d10 HD, -1 Init (thats seems ok), 20 ft speed (ok), 19 AC (-1 Dex, -1 Size, +11 Natural), 2d8+6 damage, 22 str, 8 Dex.

OK...they get 1 special ability, requires the Craft skill (either carpentry or woodworking), DR 15/+1, Darkvision, Fire Vulnerability, Magic Immunity and 2 slam attacks.

DC check is 13.

Ok the costs are as follows by the book :) : 1000 xp and 50000 gp. Body cost is 500 gp.

The fire seeds would be the special ability gained by a wood golem.

Like I say, this is by the book so your verison is not that far from what the book would have produced :)

thanks gishie. :) i will implement some of these changes into my design, but some things i want to keep as-is. i will probably have to rethink its natural armor. i will also add the carpentry - i noticed that the other golems in the MM could be created with one of two skills, but i couldn't think of what would work for woody here except woodworking, and carpentry fits the bill alltight. :)

questions: DC check for what is 13? and what is the 50,000 gp for if the body only costs 500 gp?

i got an e-mail from someone asking what caster level the fire seeds should be at, i'll have to figure that out too.

Sorry about that....caster level (according to the book) is Level 14.

The DC check for the Craft is 13

50,000 is the cost of the entire ritual for making the golem and the 500 is the cost for the wood for the body of the golem.

ok, i've got some info to help you guys out. first about the OGC will allow you to use/copy/whatever the technical info in the book. the stats for monsters, effects of spells, formulae for figuring stuff out. it however controlls the flavor information, such as stories and flavor information such as small paragraphs about the feat/spell/monster/item that will describe it's appearance/where it came from/anything about a specific campaign/etc. but we don't need all the information, just the stuff that falls under the OGC.

now here are the asked for stats for the constructs. but first i must say that in dragon magazine #276 it gives how to create a monster. under the construct area it gives rules, but every one of them are broken when creating golems. they are for homunculi and other constructs, not golems. so here are stats:

Ice Golem (in Dungeon magazine #87 Glacier Season )
Large Construct
HD 18
CR 13
cost 80,000
1000 body
Craft (sculpting or masonry) DC 18
16th level
xp 1800

Ruby Golem (in Monsters of Faerun)
Large Construct
HD 10
CR 11
cost 65,000
12000 body
craft (gemworking) or Heal DC 15
16th level
xp 1500

Emerald Golem (in Monsters of Faerun)
Large Construct
HD 12
CR 12
cost 70,000
12000 body
Craft (gemworking) or Heal DC 15
17th Level
xp 1500

Diamond golem (in Monsters of Faerun)
Large Construct
HD 14
CR 12
Cost 75000
12000 body
Craft (Gemworking) or Heal DC 16
xp 1500

Gem Golems' bodies contain a 10000 gp gem heart plus 2000 gp for rest of body.

Thayan Golem (in Monsters of Faerun)
Medium-Sized Construct
HD 7
CR 8
Cost ?
? body
Craft ?
xp ?

i hope this helps. Oh, and don't count on the Ice Golem too much, it was submitted by an outside source.

sorry, but i don't have the MM2.

thanks gish, sorry i drifted off on ya - was talking to my g/f (oops, fiancee) and a lot of other stuff was goin on. anyway, took your suggestions in mind, and made some alterations. tell me what ya think of it now. :)

Just to rehash this thread momentarily...I noticed something about the check DCs for golem creation (using the golems in the MM). They are close to (in three outta four cases) the caster level for creating the golem.

Flesh, Craft check (DC 13), caster level 14

Clay, Craft check (DC 15), caster level 16

Stone, Craft check (DC 17), caster level 16

Iron, Craft check (DC 20), caster level 16

Could it be that "lesser" golems have the Craft check set to 'caster level -1" and "greater" golems have it set to 'caster level + 1,' excepting of course the iron golem which doesnt seem to fit the mold here.

Monsters of Faerun doesnt seem to follow this pattern. Then again the dragons in that book dont follow the ability score advancements and starting points for the MM dragons either, so I pretty much ignore that book when it comes to breaking stuff down.

Grazzt....according to the book I have, the skill check changes depending upon the size of the construct.

Cool, but I am trying to find WotC's method to their madness...if there is such a thing. :D

Gish- what would the Craft check DCs be for the four golems in the MM using your book? Just wondering if they work out or not.
