Contest: help me find the most powerful combination of magic & steel!!!

The Cardinal

First Post
PROBLEM
To create the best possible badass combination of spellcasting ability and melee combat power - yes, I know: it's called a cleric. But I'd like to avoid a straight cleric. So this combination should include no more than 3 levels of cleric...

TOOLS
The 3 core books
All WotC class books
MotP
OA - only if absolutely necessary

RACES
all races from the books above - but *not* OA races

SOLUTION????
...well, that's what I hope to find with this thread!

Well, unless you're hitting an anti-magic zone or get targeted by greater dispels a lot, even a straight Wizard can become quite a combat monster later with Tenser's Transformation and the like.

Bard.

He gets a moderate BAB, access to one real sword (either rapier or longsword, both if he's an elf) and all the major buff spells, plus he's his own ally for the effects of bard song.

Seconded.

Although you still fight with steel, the magic only makes you a better fighter.

If you want to go into melee and still use stuff like fireball, then possibly Spellsword.

I'd say split the levels between fighter/barbarian/monk and sorceror, with mostly touch spells, especially if you're a monk. The reason for this is sorcerors, while having fewer spells overall, get a lot more spells per day than the other classes, which means that you can cast more buffs on yourself. Personally, I think the monk (assuming certain chagnes in the MC rules...) would work best for this combination, if you chose the right spells, since you'll be able to keep your hands free rather easily.
Of course, all this is up for debate and personal preference, but for what you want, I think this would be the best combination for you.
