CONTROVERSIAL QUESTION: Difficult Subject Matter.

Maybe I am just a little biased here in this thread - originally I was just saying that a book actually outlining specific rules on how to rape someone is crossing some sort of creepy line, so followup comments arguing that rape as a thing should be included in a game are extra weird to me!

Putting that aside, though, that sort of thing in a game just doesn't strike me as something you have to put in for realism's sake, or something you should take particular pride in not shying away from.

It's just kind of there, like a spider in a bathroom.

I was just talking about the idea of a book that actually has the rules laid out under some kind of "How to Rape" heading. You could probably homebrew it yourself out of existing rules in any system. I can't think of any reason to need them that isn't just weird, though.

This topic crossed the line from respectful and interesting to horribly creepy! Which is a shame, because I was enjoying reading along prior to that, and laughing at D&D genealogy. Can the thread wend its way back to on-topic, or will someone construct a table of "The Lesson Has Been Learned, but the Damage Is Irreversible"?

In fact, with such a controversial topic, I'm quite amazed (and applaud) how we've been able to discuss this topic without a flame war and the thread being shut down.

Both sides of the argument have been respectful and still getting their points across.

Let's keep it that way, and let the conversation continue.

The Book of Erotic Fantasy ( the book I assume you are referencing) doesn't deal with only forced interactions. In fact it merely nods to them as a distinct possibility as the book deals with sexual material as a whole in the D&D world. The most important I believe is the alignments attitudes towards sexual material. It is actually a great book that has rules for allowing your characters to have children and I believe dice rolls to determine their stats and whatnot. Like half-breeds for example.

In what way is it getting out of hand? I don't see any heated arguments here. What I do see is people with differing opinions and tastes stating them.

There's no reason to lock this thread.

If you don't agree with the topic, then why not just ignore the thread instead of getting the thread locked for the rest of us who are participating?

Just because you might not like the topic doesn't mean you should get the thread locked.

agree with the last post... its not out of hand...some strong opinions but nothing attacking each other...just the concepts... As for the sex in D n D...it was never talked about in dragon...except in the comics really. Gary, as far as I know didnt really have it come into play, except at conventions with hot little dnd groupies after the gaming day ended.. but thats for other thoughts...lol D n D is first and formost (or was supposed to be) a War game set in a medieval setting with magic and god interaction like in our myth and ancient literature (yes the bible and koran are included here). So sex? of course, whether or not you allow it. its a DM problem and nightmare usually... (I agree with the post about leaving the group if the gang rape to a player by the other players happened- thats just twisted and not in the spirit of THE GAME... remember that first and foremost its a game for enjoyment. Rape should never be considered part of a fun filled evening.. if it is... perhaps you will be trying to use the D and D defense as was tried for murder twice that I know of; and laughed out of the courtroom. rant rant rant...

some one posted earlier that dnd doesn't revolve around humans... with the article by GG that I read (from dragon an early one.. check with the Dragon reading thread should be mentinoed - I cant recall as I said) He belived that the game DID revolve around humans and was suggesting that DMs limit and play down half breeds making them worse than either of the original races by themselves. I dont run into this sort of thing these days with a group of novices who will never have this come up.. I didnt have it come up with my last group..all of whom were Dm/Gms in their own right and several had played as long if not longer than I.
Last its all back to the DM/main ruling God of the world/universe in which they play... what you say goes... Dm its your game. allow what you wish. whew... I just ranted my fingers off...
