D&D 5E conversion question

Unfortunately the best answer might be to wait for the DMG. It is supposed to have information for converting between different versions.

EDIT: As a better answer, short term you would need to reskin the weapon and armor tables. You might want a few custom backgrounds and feats. The biggest hurdle is that there are no psionics yet. They might be available in the DMG when it comes out in November. Aside from that, I do not really know Dark Sun well enough (although a friend gave me the campaign setting and creature catalog).

Hi, I have run 2e and 4e dark sun a lot and while I would like to continue to do so in 5e I think I will hold off for a bit, mostly because at this point psionics would be completely homebrew or reskinned wizard, neither of which seems very satisfying.

I agree that all this will be easier with the DMG, for encounter building advise if nothing else. After that it's a question of do I want to put a lot of work into it or wait and let someone else do it.

As far as monsters, you could try using the conversion guidelines I made for 4E to 5E here. They should be sufficient to carry us until we get official guidelines (or at least I hope so!).

As for psionics, while it's true there's no 5E equivalent yet, maybe you could keep them the same way they are in 4E? It would certainly give them a different feel than 5E's spellcasting rules. Granted, I'm not familiar with how psionics work in 4E, so that might be more trouble than it's worth.

Otherwise, agreed that reskinning is the only option that doesn't require a ton of work...
