Conversions of old spells and magic items?

sorry, it might not be new.

In talking with WotC cust serv, being referred to WotC Legal, and then to Andy Smith a while ago, the answers I got to questions about converting and OGC was that you can use names of creatures and spells, just not individual names as OGC, just as was done in the srd. So the spell Bigby's Feeling Fingers fropm the Greyhawk Adventures book can be made into an OGC spell Feeling Fingers.

so you mean in the way that hackmaster used spell names? pretty much everything was used as is, but the bibgy, mordenkainen, etc spells were renamed.

I've only got one Hackmaster module and one Hacklopedia so I couldn't say for sure about their use.

I was told If I did a conversion of the 1e Fiend Folio and then wanted to use the name Bullywug as part of OGC stats in another product that would be fine, but not the descriptions (or ecology from 2e era stuff). For older spells age dragon could be used wholesale as OGC, but Tenser's Hunting Hawk could not use Tenser, As Tenser is a proper name and therefore reserved by WotC.

Glad you found the thread I was gonna bump for you in the conversions forum, Boz...

I'll try to post anything new that I do periodically. :)

So basically, we can convert and post old 1e and 2e stuff, as long as we follow their guidelines?

So let me get this straight. Will there be a website that will hold 3.5 conversions of spells and magic items? If so, I will glad to try my hand at it if I the data will house like the monster conversions.

i'm not planning on making such a website, but who knows if someone else might? i think that would be a cool thing.

I would gladly start converting stuff, but I have no permenant web-space. Is there anyone who would like to graciously donate space on a web-site for a 1e-2e spell conversion list?

well, i do have some space on my yahoo/geocities page (see the sig), so i might post some stuff there... i dunno, we'll see. first the work needs to be done. ;)

Or some company might come along, do a spells and magic item book as a hardcover, release it, and make the whole thing OGC. Ya just never know these days... :D
