Convert magic resistance to SR

How?
Example trying to convert Return to White Plume
Magic Resistance is 40%
So Sr 20 + (40/5) = 28
or
base 10 +8?
Or just link with the correct place.

Second one of 1st ed pc has a - 6 on all saves vs petrification
Should I just give a circumstanal -6 on all hold and gaze type attacks.

The way the 3E conversion handbook and the way I have alsways handled converting magic resistance to spell resistance is to divide the old magic resistance by 5 and add it to 11. Thus a magic resistance of 40% would yield a spell resistance of 19. (40/5 +11)

Or divide the original SR by 5 and add it to the critters Challenge Rating, if you want something with a really good Magic Resistance.

3e conversion rules say take the 1e/2e magic resistance and divide by 5. Add the result to 11. This is the monster's 3e SR.

But this is obviously not always the convention used in the official material. One example would be the dark elf SR and the svirfneblin SR.

Drow, in 2nd Ed, had 50% + 2%/lvl MR, or in strict 3E conversion terms, SR 21 + 2/five levels.

Svirfneblin, in 2nd Ed, had 20% + 5%/lvl MR, or in strict 3E conversion terms, SR 15 + 1/lvl.

However, in the FRCS, 11+lvl is used for both.

Yes, true, its just something I use, because using that formula leads to really weird SR, eg Mind Flayer 90/5=18 , 11 + (18) = 29, now since Mind Flayers are CR 8 that means a Mind Flayer vs a Group of 8th level, requires a 21 on spell penetration rolls . A tad ( ) higher chance of being resistant than before.


I don't do official conversions, I thought this was a general question and my apologies for any confusion.
