Converting Creatures from Other Campaign Settings

Ok, so let's add engulf with negative energy.

I'm still not sure if it's just better to have it ignite anyway. What's your preference?

Sounds like a consensus. Let's just do that. 10 ft burst, XdX fire damage?

I was thinking a radius of twice the elemental's Space (e.g. 20 ft. for a Large Ash Elemental, 30 ft. for Huge et cetera).

Damage dependent on Hit Dice? Maybe 1d6 per HD?

I like that.

I think 1d6 * half HD would be more appropriate. If we're hewing closely to the earth elemental CRs, 16d6 would be an awful lot for CR7 for the Huge one.

I'd go for that if you make the type something harder to block with resist fire or the like.

Half fire damage, half unholy damage?

We're already giving them negative energy in their engulf, so why not half negative energy?

Good idea!

Does this look OK:

Death Throes (Ex): If a living ash is destroyed its body explodes in a cloud of deadly cinders and lethal radiation. This explosion has a radius equal to twice the living ash's Space (20 ft. for a Large living ash, 30 ft. for Huge living ash, et cetera). All creatures within this area take 1d6 damage for every 2 hit dice the ash possesses, the damage is halved if an opponent succeeds at a DC 18 Reflex save. Damage from a living ash's death throes is is half fire and half negative energy. The save DC is Constitution-based.
