Maybe somebody with books at work should post the relevant ability. I can't even get caught up on all the threads!

Here's the leviathan's ability...

Gulp (Ex): A leviathan can swallow a Huge or smaller creature by making a successful bite attack. The monster's interior contains a mass of surging water. Each swallowed creature must make a Swim check (DC 15) every round. Success means the swallowed creature takes 1d3 points of subdual damage but can attack the leviathan from inside with any weapon other than a bow or crossbow. Failure means the swallowed creature takes 1d6 points of subdual damage and must immediately make a second Swim check (DC 15) to avoid going underwater and starting to drown. Anyone attacking the leviathan from the inside hits automatically. If the leviathan takes 50 points of damage from the inside, it disgorges the entire contents of its stomach.

Here's the mivilorn's...

Charging Bite (Su): When charging, a mivilorn opens its expansive mouth to its fullest width in order to swallow one or more opponents whole. If a mivilorn succeeds on a bite attack at the end of a charge, the victim must make a DC 23 Reflex save to avoid being scooped into the creature's expanded, open mouth. A mivilorn can scoop up a single Large creature, or two creatures of Medium or smaller size in the same attack if they are adjacent. In the latter case, the mivilorn makes one attack roll against the opponent with the higher AC. If the creature hits, both opponents take bite damage, and each gets its own Reflex save to avoid being trapped in the toothy cage. The save DC is Dexterity-based.

Improved Grab (Ex): In order to swallow an opponent without charging, a mivilorn must hit a Large or smaller opponent with its bite attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and can try to swallow the foe the following round.

Swallow Whole (Ex): A swallowed creature automatically takes 6d4 points of bite damage every round in addition to the maximum damage from the mivilorn's acid attack (8 points). A mivilorn spews out any creature or creatures that succeed in dealing a total of 40 points of damage to its mouth (which has damage reduction 15/bludgeoning and an AC of 16). Trapped creatures may only use light melee weapons.

After 3 rounds of chewing an opponent, a mivilorn spits it out to see if it is dead. If it's still alive, the mivilorn attempts to grapple and swallow the creature a second time.

I also think an epic version of vortex maw might work here...

Vortex Maw (Ex): A shonisaurus can open its mouth so quickly that it creates a powerful suction. All creatures within a 40-foot cone must make Strength checks opposed by the shonisaurus's Strength check (+31 for a standard shonisaurus), with the same modifiers as a bull rush. If the shonisaurus beats a creature's Strength check result, it pulls the victim 5 feet closer to its jaws. For each 5 points by which its check result is greater than a victim's check result, the shonisaurus pulls the victim an additional 5 feet closer. The victim provokes attacks of opportunity if it is moved.

The Vortex Maw is tempting, but the original apparently could only swallow a single target per mouth attack - but it could swallow something up to 1000 feet across!

That suggest plain old Swallow Whole with a truly titanic size limit.

Maybe an auto swallow whole on a successful bite, something like the leviathan or mivilorn. Just so it doesn't have to go through multiple grapple checks.

I'd rather keep the Grapple Check if we're using Swallow Whole, mainly for the sake of consistency.

Besides, it's not like it'll fail the grapple contest very often...

So you don't like gulp or charging bite? This thing should be very efficient at swallowing, not be tied up with a single opponent.

I'm leaning towards a vortex maw-like ability to "vacuum" up a bunch of smaller creature, and give it improved grab/swallow whole for biting a single big critter. Thoughts?
