Converting Greyhawk monsters

So... take a kobold, add fast healing and give them a bonus on saves vs fear (the check vs Intimidate already includes bonus vs fear)? Pretty easy, I guess.

That's right, unless we want to give them a special ability to represent Lyzander summoning over monstrous reinforcement I don't think there's much else to them.

Modify this?

Bravery (Ex): Sand cows are notoriously courageous but mule-headed creatures. They have a +4 bonus on saves against all fear effects.

Probably no special benefit other than flavor text. Although, due to their locale, I could see giving them some benefit pertaining to their close ties to undead. Hmm...

Can you paste a regular kobold into homebrews? Then we can change the gear around.

Done.

I'm thinking favored class shouldn't be sorcerer.

Works for me.

Well I suppose we could do something to play up the 'Crypt' bit of their name, although Tomb-Tainted doesn't seem to fit.

Maybe increase their Light Sensitivity?

Light Sensitivity (Ex): Crypt kobolds are dazzled by bright light such as a bullseye lantern or light spell.

Alternatively (or additionally) we could say their regeneration/fast healing doesn't work in daylight?

Fighter, like a troll?

Works for me.

How about adapting like so...

Bravery in Numbers (Ex): Crypt kobolds are courageous and unflinching when they outnumber their opponents. They have a +4 bonus on opposed Intimidate checks and saves against all fear effects while they outnumber their adversaries.

I could go for this, if we change the name slightly to avoid confusion with the standard light sensitivity trait. Maybe "Greater Light Sensitivity" or "Light Aversion"? "Light Blindness" is already a more powerful version of the trait.

I'm not sure I want to limit them that much.

Fighter, like a troll?

Sure!

I'd change it so the numbers increase for larger opponents. Say, 4 kobolds per Medium sized foe, 16 per Large foe, et cetera.

Heightened Light Sensitivity?

Well I'm getting to like daylight-defeated Regeneration.

Alternatively (or additionally), maybe its Fast Healing in daylight, Regeneration in darker conditions, or the rate changes (e.g. regeneration 2 in the gloom, 1 in the daylight)?

I don't want to limit them so much against Medium opponents, like PCs. What about this?

Bravery in Numbers (Ex): Crypt kobolds are courageous and unflinching when they outnumber their opponents. They have a +4 bonus on opposed Intimidate checks and saves against all fear effects while they outnumber Medium or smaller adversaries. Large adversaries count as 4 Medium adversaries, and crypt kobolds cannot gain this bonus against Huge or larger foes.

Heightened light sensitivity works.

I think I just prefer regular fast healing.

Agreed to all this.
