Hmm. A madness of cackling bones?

Challenge Rating: 2

Seems a bit high. Are they really a whole CR higher than a standard Ghoul?

Sure they can fly and are immune to turning, but they don't have any special attacks that are useful in combat.

Treasure: None?

I was thinking they might have incidental treasure left over from their abandoned remains and the corpses of their victims. Maybe the same as a Monstrous Spider (1/10 coins; 50% goods; 50% items).

That said, I'd be OK with no treasure too.

Shall we leave it to Freyar to decide?

Alignment: Always neutral evil

That was my first choice, but now I'm wondering whether Chaotic Evil might not fit better with them being Cackling Crazy.

Or we could go "Always Evil, usually Chaotic?".

Well Japan has a tradition for Giant Ghosts, so I'd be amenable to that. I certainly think size advancement fits this version better than it would the Tatami Goblin version.

Might as well wait to Freyar to chip in before I update the Draft.

That's OK, I suppose.

Wow...ghouls are only CR 1. I suppose they aren't better...just different.

I'm content either way. I figured they were nomadic, and didn't really have anywhere to carry the treasure.

I like that.

The original monster lived, or rather existed, in a well, and only emerged to attack intruders. That doesn't suggest a nomadic critter.

So, are we OK with:

Organization: Solitary or madness (2-8)
Challenge Rating: 1
Treasure: 1/10 coins; 50% goods; 50% items [or None?]
Alignment: Always evil, usually chaotic
Advancement: 3-6 HD (Medium); 7-9 HD (Large)
