Converting Palm contacts/calendar to iPhone/iPod Touch?

The default way of doing this seems to be using Microsoft Outlook, which I don't have, don't want and wouldn't use.

Is there another method of extracting my hundreds of contacts and very full calendar from my Treo and backing it up on my iPod Touch?

You have a Windows computer, yes? If it's a Mac, you can sync with Address Book and iCal, obviously.

Some quick Googling revealed that the only way to move from a Palm to an iPhone/iPod Touch on Windows is via MS Outlook. There may be another way, but I couldn't find it.

I got the contacts to transfer via Yahoo, but iTunes only wants to look at calendar applications, which are few and far between. It's a little weird that Apple would insist I use a Microsoft product to be able to put a calendar on my iPod touch, but then, it's weird that I can't manually enter entries in it on the iPod anyway.
