Nah, I think I'll change my answer. Krish made a very good argument for ooze. I'm just not used to the new "better faster stronger" ooze of MMIII. I hear ooze, I think "black pudding, gelatinous cube".

ooze does become a very limited creature type when it doesn't have room for variation. :)

the MM 3.5 glossary states that oozes are mindless by default, but they do get skills and feats if they have an intelligence score. :)
 

I'm a bit partial to toss out the "mostly mindless" phrase from oozes, making them "a step up", so to speak, from aberrations similar to monstrous humanoids to humanoids and magical beasts to animals/vermin. With a bit of renaming, the same "hierarchy" could apply to outsiders/fey and elementals. But that's off topic a bit, and I also vote for ooze. :heh:

Conflagration Ooze: Str 23, Dex 10, Con 18, Int 9, Wis 12, Cha 13
Aballin: Str 21, Dex 13, Con 14, Int -, Wis 9, Cha 6
Lava Ooze : Str 19, Dex 1, Con 24, Int -, Wis 1, Cha 1
Ochre Jelly: Str 15, Dex 1, Con 22, Int —, Wis 1, Cha 1

Str and Con should be decent, Dex shouldn't be impressive. Wis and Cha should defintely be good (lower than Str and Con though); at least as high as what the conflagration ooze has.
