Converting Psionics to Spells

GM Iago

First Post
Howdy all!

I just wanted to ask an opinion or two about the topic listed above. I'm sure its been discussed here before but I couldn't find anything on it so I'm hoping some people wouldn't mind re-sharing their opinions here.

The situation is that I'm creating a mage using the Fatespinner PrC from Tome and Blood. Someone recommended changing some Psionic powers into spells for the NPC (I wanted some spells to help fit the idea of the class) and I admit that after looking through the Psionics Handbook, its a great idea with nice potential.

Here are some of the powers I wanted to change over:

Sense Link (1st level Psion)
Share Pain (2nd level)
Share Pain, Forced (3rd level)
Psychic Reformation (4th level)
Fate Link (3rd level Seer)
Escape Detection (3rd level Seer)
Mindlink (1st level Telepath)
Dimension Swap (2nd level Warrior)

I do realize that some sourcebooks or other RPG books may have such spells or similar spells already created. If so, any info on the book would be appreciated.

Generally, I think the powers can be transfered without change in terms of level. The only one I'm hesitant about is Mindlink which I think would need to be bumped up a fair amount (especially to affect more then one other person/creature).

Any thoughts or helpful suggestions?

Thanks for the time and effort.

Actually, I'm currently converting the spells to be more like the psionics system. Part of a new campaign idea we're trying. But no, I have not seen these. I'll let you know if I find any.

You really shouldn't turn psionic powers into spells, because then you lose the reason for people to play psions. If you want to create such a PrC, make levels of arcane magic and psionic power classes a requirement.

My only problem with that logic, while it is true, is that I don't have any plans or expectations of allowing psionics into the game. With that, I don't think it would really be a problem to transfer the psionics into spells.

The other thing is that if psionics were allowed then why couldn't a wizard create a spell that mimiced the psionics power, at least some of them. I don't agree with a spell that allows a spell that mimics mind attacks but I could see a spell that mimics the power of the Escape Detection.
