Not to hijack but I do have a question...

I know everyone here will think man this guy is stupid, or what a noob.. Anyway SRD's like the sites listed and the ones on WOTC's website, what exactly are they?? I mean can I run a whole game of D&D with just the SRD?? I looked them over and they seem pretty complete with my Players Handbook and all..

Heck I doubt it's true but it would save me from buying d20 modern.

WotC has created 3 System Reference Documents (SRDs): 1) SRD = most of the rules from the 3.0 PHB, DMG, and MM; 2) Revised SRD (RSRD) = most of the rules from the 3.5 PHB, DMG and MM plus content from Deities and Demigods, ELH and a smattering from Manual of the Planes; and 3) Modern SRD (MSRD) = portions of d20 Modern, d20 Future, Menace Manual and Urban Arcana.

WotC created these under the Open Gaming License (OGL) so that other publishers could use the rulesets to create supplements. The SRDs are not completely the same as the closed-content books. You'll notice that the gods are missing in both the SRD and RSRD. There are also creatures that are missing; Illithid, Beholders, the Gith, etc from SRD and RSRD and Illithids, Moreaus, etc from the MSRD.

Hope that helps.

I use that site all the time, but somone recently told me that it is out-of-date. Any truth to that? I don't know the details of the ruleset including errata to compare them.

It's true... I did a quick comparison with the latest files off the WotC site, and there's stuff missing...

That is the best D20 Modern SRD I'm aware of. It is kind of disappointing that it can't be downloaded, but what are you gonna do?

Just as an aside (and not to put down the site listed in the original post), I think most people would agree that the de facto best SRD is Sovelier and Sage's, available at system reference documents.org. Well thought-out and easy to use navigation plus thorough hyperlinking makes this far, far more useful than a book IMHO, as long as you've got a computer handy. Best of all, you can download it!

Not only would most people agree, so would the guy who created the Modern SRD in question. Me.

I hope I was sufficiently clear that my SRD is a complete rip-off of S&S's.

The online Modern SRD is, as far as I know, accurate, but it does not include any of the Urban Arcana information. I haven't gotten around to including that because it's a lot of work and I'm lazy.

So far THREE people have volunteered to do it for me. It remains undone.

And the key thing missing from ALL the SRD's is the experience point tables, and the method of character generation (it never says "roll 3d6 for each stat").

But I'm glad people like it. Always happy to have feedback!

I also use it all the time barsoom. I really appreciate your work on this... If I had the time, I'd update it, but I don't, so I switch between that and the flatfiles from Wizards for the extras... What I'd really like to see is something similar to the CHM files (Windows helpfile format) for modern/future d20. That thing is Super Useful™.
