Anyone play Cthulhu 500? The NASCAR game that man was not meant to play? It sounded pretty nifty.

Some friends and I do some playtesting for Atlas and we got Mythos 500 (the original name) a few months ago and it was a blast. I picked it up at GenCon and it was great.

The Steel Squire templates rock. I too have lost my business cards they gave me, but I picked up 2 of the complete packs. This is one of the most innovative things I have seen.

The Worlds Largest Dungeon rocks.

The new World of Darkness stuff is cute. I don't play it, but I picked it up anyway. I liked the way the books look.

I picked up all of the Arcanis stuff, very cool world setting. I don't play it either, but I do steal from it heavily for my homebrew.

Hogshead Publishing had some new releases for their Crime Scene line, plus a new line called Fright Night. I own everything they have published for those two lines, and I haven't regretted a single dollar spent. I use their stuff for my d20 modern Cthulu game that I run for my Pay to Play guys. Great stuff.

I picked up GURPS 4. I really like what they have done. I wish I could get some of my guys to let me run GURPS again, I miss it.

I grabbed Spanish Main, but in all fairness I had that before GenCon. It is a really great game though. The demo's were well done.

I also got a SUper Scrabble board game, its just like scrabble but it has three more rows around the outside, 200 tiles instead of 100, and quadruple score spaces!

Pallabra is a neat-o card game that I grabbed that combines scrabble and poker. I haven't played it yet, but the rules seem simple enough.

Middle Management is another card game that I bought. It is in the spirit of Chez Geek but for all of us Cube Farmers out there in the bleak expanse of Office Space. Fun and Funny.

Oh yeah, and I finally got some d16's! As well as my annual Pitcher of Dice. This year I also found some great blank dice. They are good sized and come in d6, d8, d10, and d12. Not sure what I am going to use them for yet, but I will think of something.

I won a free copy of City of Heroes at the show, and have been playing it obsessively since my return.

I also picked up the dvd of The Gamers and Dead Camper Lake, those both look funny though I haven't made the time to watch them yet. Those are my highlights, though I picked up a ton of other odds and ends.

Man I love GenCon. I didn't even game this year really. I literally just shopped for four days straight! It was great, though I am glad it only comes once a year. I would be in the poor house if it were more frequent.

these steel spell templates a couple people mentioned sound terrific. if anyone can find and post a web site for steel squire i would greatly appreciate it!

Hey!
That 1' hole cutter sounds great! Where can I get one? Do you know?

I don't recall the price they had for them, but you can typically get them at a craft/hobby store for about 2-3 dollars. Joanne fabrics is having a sale on that kind of stuff this week, too, 40-50% off depending on make.

The same booth had these cool magnetic stackable disks that you could use to indicate wounded status, or flying height, or whatever you wanted them to indicate. They were cool, but I lost the card for their site. ;(

(Edit): Sean already mentioned them. alea.com. Very useful in the game I ran at the 'con...

I also picked up some spell effect wire outlines from steelsqwire (steelsqwire.com). Very useful for me already...

Well, besides discovering what fun GenCon is and how cool the designers I admire are... my discoveries were basically things that I went into the con knowing I wanted to buy.

Tops in the "wow" category is the Burning Wheel Monster Burner. If this book doesn't get the Best Monster Book Ennie in 2005, then no monster book deserves to. Also proof you don't need full-color, hardcover, or glossy pages to make a beautiful book.

Then, of course, there's Dark Champions for HERO. Bloody amazing.

I'm also pretty impressed with GURPS 4th ed. This may be the edition that actually gets me to play it.

And, though it's not new, I discovered that Arcana Unearthed is really freakin' kewl. I played in a game with Mike Mearls and had a blast. Playing it finally made me notice some of the little tweaks Monte made that make it so dang interesting.

Tops on my list is Pirates of the Spanish Main. I already had a few packs, but had not actually played the game before I sat down with Teflon Billy, Stone Angel, and Theo (?) to play on Saturday night. The game rocks! I was very tired that night, but I had to stay and play.

I looked at the Steel Sqwire stuff, but couldn't justify the cost, especially since I had just picked up the Battle Box from Fiery Dragon (another really cool product), and I have lots of templates for spells at home already. While the metal ones are cool because they don't interfere with the minis on the table, I think I'll be able to live without.

I also really liked the new monster book from Expeditious Retreat Press, Monster Geographica; Underground. I really like the format of the book, and see it being very useful, both in planning adventures, and at the table.

Now as for the 1" hole punch, I didn't see that. I'll have to hit the craft store on the way home tonight. I too sense the demise of hundreds of useless MTG cards...

I picked up Universalis at the Indie RPG booth. It's a great game! Fantastic for nights where you have no time to prep something.

Having been an exhibitor at the Forge booth with Ralph, I can say that he's a great guy as well as an innovative game designer. (I traded him a copy of my Horde Books for Universalis and the quickstart for his new Robots and Rapiers). His forum at http://www.indie-rpgs.com/ is an excellent source of ideas for the game.
