As I've always said, Kobolds are canine. Gnoll are hyena-like, hyenas are not canine, are feline (search for it in an encyclopedia if you don't believe me). :D

Seems to be some sort of epic kobold to me. I mean, 300 hp for a kobold?? Hmm, what about a barbarian kobold with CON 22 (wears bracers of health +6) and 20 levels bbn? It will end up at 20x6.5 +120, that is 250 hp... not so bad.

But a raging kobold with a short sword...hmm, can't help but I'm thinking of the fight between Yoda and Dooku...

Lessee, opponents for a game modeled after a MMPOLRPG in which contiual power-ups are the norm have ridiculously huge hp numbers?

Why am I not surprised?

Well, it's worth pointing out that, in the EQ universe, Kobolds are not low level monsters, as a rule. In fact, the most common/well known instance of kobolds in the game, those in the Eye of Solusek dungeon, are targeted at parties of 40+... In the game, that's level 20 or so and up.

Granted, not all are like that... evidence from the easier ones in the book.

I fail to understand why people do the rolleyes at this game so often when it's just translating the game into PnP stats. I mean, really, did you expect it to re-write the game entirely to cram it into a DnD-standard existance? I sure didn't, and probably wouldn't have bought it if it did. Everquest/Norrath != DnD/Greyhawk/Forgotten Realms .

And who's to say that their "kobolds" are meant to be the same sort as presented in the MM?

D&D doesn't have exclusive rights to such names. A mythological kobold is some sort of gnome that lives in mines and has to be appeased or it'll do bad things to miners. Two hundred years ago they'd be blamed for trapping those PA miners for several days.

So, WotC defines their kobold as a reptilian humanoid, and EQ defines their kobold as a 4-6 foot canine humanoid. So what?

D&D Gnolls are hyenoid, but Terry Pratchett's gnolls are a humpbacked, omnivorous species of troll (which means they are silicon life forms). Not every troll has to regenerate! Dragons don't have to be divided by color and breath weapon!

Aw jeez... ranting again!
