Yes and simple weapons throw off all kinds of calculations. Dagger for instance, simple so if we use the lower by two gets us in the ballpark (1d8 > 1d6 > 1d4) and we have our +3/1d4 dagger. But then it also adds in Off-hand and Light Thrown definitely bonuses.
If daggers were military, they'd actually almost fit a formula. Removes any penalty for being simple and they have two bonus attributes which are paid for by the two decreases in damage dice. Of course the short range 30'-50' is still free.
Javelin, simple so -2, long ranged so -1, it should be a +2, 1d4 by my thought on computation but who'd ever want it?
