Why do they need that? Is there some battle that has to be won? Why are people so eager to see something fail?

Half glass full vs. half glass empty argument here. I never mentioned a battle - what battle are you talking about? I'm not talking about anyone failing, I'm only talking of how a company makes itself more successful.

Fail? Battle? Don't put words in my mouth - I didn't say that.

I'm responding to those that think Pathfinder has to become the known factor that D&D is in order to take market share. I'm saying that is isn't necessary. D&D can and should always be the big name in RPGs or what is respresentative of the market. This could all remain true and Pathfinder can be the default game, without ever being the default brand.

I don't want anyone to fail, I just want the game I prefer to be more successful. Simple.

Because, like i said in other threads, the owners of the D&D brand(WOTC) went another direction with a game we loved and played for years. To something that was'nt anywhere near what it used to be. Some of us didn't want that drastic of a change in the system. So we got on board with a company who picked up where D&D left off and made it better. (basically, in my mind what 4th edition should have been). Thats why D&D failing would'nt bug me......I don't wish it to happen but if it did......i'll sleep o.k.

The statement typed above is my opinion and nothing more. I have no intent to cheese off any 4th edition players. I just think it is not for me. I "THINK" it blows. My opinion is just that, an opinion, no refelction on any 4th ed. players. I feel like I should repeat that last statement 10 more times so it sinks in before the "DEFENDERS OF THE 4TH EDITION UNIVERSE" show up.:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Pathfinder won't supplant D&D unless they start trying to appeal to a larger market than what their current model has them doing. Their refusal to expand to different systems appeals to a certain niche in the market they already have, to be sure, but means that they're not going to get a much wider playerbase than they already have.

cyderak, if there was one person on these forums who I could imagine dancing on D&D's grave if it ever failed, it would be you.

Your opinion isn't going to cheese anyone off. On the other hand, using tongue-in-cheek/sarcastic names for those who prefer a different game than you ("DEFENDERS OF THE 4TH EDITION UNIVERSE") probably will. If you were actually trying to avoid ticking anyone off, you would have left the name-calling out of it.

I wonder if Hasbro ever sold off the D&D brand, if Paizo would pick it up? D&D 5E/PF 2E could be the same thing. haha...

I once said something similar...to which I was told that PF players don't want Paizo to buy D&D

however I do believe it should happen, perhaps have 'Pathfinder' become the name of a setting (among the others such as FR, eberron, Planescape, Ravenloft, Greyhawk, Dark Sun, Blackmoore, Dragonlance, ect. ect.)

but to answer the thread's question

it IS D&D, or at least where it should have go IMO

I also do not consider 4e D&D unless its the brand name, but you can brand a goat and it still isn't a cow (cowboy joke if you get it), so as I have started to call if Dungeons of Warcraft I suggest you try not to beat my face in with a golf club via thread fights.

"I'm just being purposefully insulting towards something, not trying to start thread fights."

Yeah, I bet you're not trying to start fights by being deliberately provocative.

I think you are assuming too much. He could just be making fun of something he dislikes to people he thinks also dislike that something.

Are you serious? Comments like this are what edition war derails are made of.

Conversely: If I stated, "Pathfinder isn't Pathfinder, at least not in my opinion, it's just a dumb game for socially stunted manchildren," would you take that as a jest? Or would it be OH MAN SERIOUS ABOUT AR PEE GEE TIME!

My bet's on the latter.
