Could you play in a fantasy world without clerics

Sounds fun to me. I'd play in or run a game with no clerics & druids, no problem.

I think the idea of handling healing with potions is an interesting idea. You could maybe even 'cook up' an Alchemist class, or tack on some beefed-up potion making rules for magic-users.

On the subject of Raise Dead... I allow the spell to be cast but it only works if the recipient's soul has first been retrieved from the afterlife. So it requires a quest, etc. I think games work fine without constant raising of the dead.

I did it even without potions. Changed Heal skill to work like Treat Injury from d20 Modern and that was most of all I needed.

I also used the Unearthed Arcana rule that armor converts a certain amount of damage from regular to subdual--PC's still went down at the same time, but weren't likely to actually die unless a foe coup de graced them.

Oh, and I had Action Points too, so PC's could burn one to autostablize if needed.
