Counter for Dimensional Anchor

Alensande

First Post
I am planning an encounter for my party (three players, 13-15th level, cleric, druid, ranger) that involves their presence on the Fugue Plane in FR, trying to find a 'lost soul'. This soul is protected by an unknown force, and they must convince her to return to the Prime Material; she is also being courted by a demon.

My dilemma stems from the cleric's love of Dimensional Anchor, and a need for the demon to get out the information he has prior to any fights starting :). Would Dimensional Anchor work on the Fugue? If so, what item could he have that might counter it?

Thanks for any help!

Antimagic fields will stop dimensional anchors, but it'll stop teleporting, too. :)

Dispel Magic effects can also rid you of the Dimensional anchor.

Spell Resistance is also an obvious choice, and items that grant spell resistance. I know some Cleric Spells do.

I'm not clear on what you need. You'd like the demon to give a "My Evil Plan" monologue before starting a fight? And Dimensional Archor prevents this in what way, exactly?

I admit confusion myself. Counters to dimensional anchor, however, are spell resistance and things like spell immunity or greater spell immunity. Is this sufficient information for you?

Yep, actually, that does answer the question. Thanks!

And to clarify, no, he isn't going to monologue (thankfully he's a bit smarter than that!); I plan on having him either taunt the party into going after several items that will prove to the 'lost soul' they are who they say they are, or taunt her into asking the party to go after them. He needs the items and the soul, and he'd prefer to work on her while someone else did the delving :).

I asked for a counter because this party has gotten very good at using dimensional anchor as the trigger to let loose a volley of damage on the anchoree...and they have worked to keep at least a small supply of items that will make an Outsider's life unhappily short. I would rather not stop them from doing this directly, but instead give him something that will provide reasonable resistance.

Thanks again for the info!

Which would be pretty metagamey, tho. ;)

A good touch AC and/or a major cloak of displacement will also make being hit by it harder.

Bye
Thanee
