Coup de grace vs. full attack

But since the target has the renewal domain, he'll be back to life as soon as diaglo kills him, after which the hold person + CDG combo will take care of the player-killer. ;)

but...

the renewal domain states: If an attack Brings you to −10 hit points or below, you die before this granted power takes effect.

does CdG count as a -10 or below on a failed Fort save?

also since the victim will be prone. if he tries to cast a hold person....

i'll AoO him.

he doesn't have any ranks in concentration.

2 skill points + 1 for human + 1 for int = 4 per lvl... he is using them on diplomacy and knowledge religion and speak languages so he qualifies for his PrC.

Specifically, a CdG brings you immediately to -10 HP.

sweet.

now all i need the victim to do then is roll out in the opening.

instead of just yelling out "NAtural 20" like he does normally

even if i have to square off against him in combat. my +8 init bonus vs. his +2 should help.. but again... his Natural 20 die is the problem...

i guess i should steal his mace and shield first. place them in my handy haversack. and then CdG.

that way if i don't succeed at least he is unarmed and less armored.

Why bother!?

Just quit the game.

Admit it: it's gonna happen eventually......it's not like you two will be friendly after this incident.

are you kidding??? we are friends.

don't you ever cut it up with your friends? make fun of their foibles? or just play your character as a real person?

i don't know how you play D&D... but it ain't the way i'd want to be playing.

It happens at times and will lead to (some) bad blood. Something that friends will easier get over than others, but it's still a dicey thing. Plus, your compatriots/fellow players (who are presumably friends of the both of you ) might want to avenge their comrade - which could cause a running battle and vendetta of kills and counterkills.
And , from a GM's point of view, I would severely frown on it as potentially very harmful to the campaign (and any successor the two of you might play in) and would in all likelihood consider alignemnt before and after such an attack very carefully. This chaotic evil behaviour in most people's books.

From the purely rules-wise Point of view, let me add this - as the target is prone, he will also incur an AoO when he tries to stand up to cast which may just be the thing to look for.
BTW - if you plan to go for the CdG approach, get the biggest weapon you can get your hands on (and swing), even if you are not really proficient in it, to raise the automatic maximum damage some more. Battleaxes are great for this (x3 crit modifier), picks have their uses, too (due to the x4 crit multiplier you have 6x4 = 24 points plus sneak and what's not as base damage... DC 34+ for the Fort save, and even if he makes it, he is even further down on HP ..). Swing two-handedly if you can, to maximize any Str bonus you might have

since we are our PCs when we play it makes sense to me that they would.

besides, the twist is we are currently gaming in the CotSQ and about to complete the quest we set upon. the BBEG in the adventure is the
drow goddess of revenge
, so ... maybe i've been corrupted. ;)

fiddle has always been about evening scores.

i was thinking the same thing. but if/when the cleric survives i want to have my twf handy.

example... sleeping human in +2 mithril breastplate dex 14(+2) +2 hvy shield = AC 23 is now +2 mithril breastplate dex 0(-5) = AC 12

you ever tried sleeping in a metal breastplate and shield????
