Cover other games?--- Err No

I'm not a big fan of the idea myself. I think being the best d20 site around is pretty darn good, but honestly it is something Morrus felt he had to do, i'd be ok with it. I guess it's easy enough to skip through the info you aren't interested in.

I'll pop my opinion in here, too.

In my experience, a company or person seeking to excel in a given field should do one thing, and do it well. If one tries to expand focus too far beyond the available reach, the quality on all fronts will suffer, as much as you try not to let it.

I would rather see this site devoted to D20 products, because Morrus and the available assistance he has does it SPECTACULARLY well.

NOTE: I will not immediately abandon the site if the site diversifies, of course. However, I have seen people and companies who diversified to the point where they lost their original audience, and still did not achieve success.

What if it was a separate page? So the site would look exactly the same as it does now, but maybe there's be two tabs at the top of the news section - one saying "D&D/D20" and the other saying "Other RPGs"?

Just to clear something up, though... I don't necessarily feel that it is necessary, more that there are external influences that are making me less than happy with the situation at present. By that, I don't mean that I'm not happy with running the site (I am, I love it!) but that I perceive a change in the landscape, and doing this may make me feel better about that change.

I'm trying not to be cryptic, honestly. But I don't want to jump up and point a finger saying "It's because of that!"

I have a question and a comment.

Q: Isn't there a lot of contributed material to this site? Such as conversions, adventures, etc? At least part of what makes this such a good website is the creativity and contributions of the visitors (and everyone on the messageboards!)

If people want to contribute material or comment on other games/systems, I do not see the harm in that. The site can always stay D20 focused, but can also have some additional goodies on the side :-)

The problem, as I see it, is the messageboard community. If enworld expands to include news/info/goodies for other roleplaying systems, then the messageboards will have to expand as well.

I know that the current server is some super uber cool machine with all sorts of power, but the swell caused by catering to the players of other non d20 rpg's could very well swell the messageboards to the point of being unusable. Again.

So, I say leave it the way it is, and keep providing the best d20 site out there!

I say go for it. I wouldn't mind seeing other games covered here.

I have no idea what changes Morrus is concerned about, but I have also been thinking about the implications of the various changes going on in the world of D&D/d20. I think it would be a good idea to expand the site, just to make sure that if anything drastic were to happen, the site could continue on. And no, I'm not saying the sky is falling. I'm simply saying it's always good to hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

well...

I'm about to start playing Mage and I know 0, zip, zilch, NADA about it. I would love to have an "other RPG" slot here at enworld to discuss my new hobby on. So, I guess I'm a "Yes, as long as the focus stays on d20."

That, luckily is no longer a concern. The original problem was due to a large company's sales/hosting package policies. Because I now own this server, if it ever needs upgrading again it's a cheap and simple process. In short - don't let server capacity influence your opinion on this, because it's not at all relevant any more.

On the other hand, if you are against the idea of the boards becoming more crowded in general - then that's a perfectly valid consideration, and one I'd agree with.

Just to make sure nobody misunderstands me - I'm not referring to any impending "fall" of D&D or D20 or anything like that. :)
