Cover other games?--- Err No

I have nothing against RPG.net, but I have no intention of running anything other than EN World. That would absolutely be a top priority. I love my site, and would never allow it to change in that manner.

In that case, my opinion changes from "no" to "indifferent." If you want to Morrus, then go for it. You're an amazing guy, I'm sure you can pull it off.

Try it, you'll like it!

I like the idea of a trial run - say, two weeks with a "Non-d20" forum and see what the response is...

The Same...but more?

I can see Morrus' last point about creating some tabs at the top that would refer to other items beyond d20/D&D. If you have the time and inclination without negatively impacting the current content, then go for it.

I am NOT a big user of forums, so that is not an interest/concern of mine.

But I also agree with previous points: this site is remarkable AS IS. I rely on its brevity and breadth to get information quickly and concisely. I also utilize the "black pages" and other resources. In my role at a DM for an on-going campaign, I use EN World to keep my players informed of new products. I also use it to improve my work as a DM. In my busy life, EN World keeps me informed quickly and easily. Keep up that great work!

no

(The prior message has basically been completely changed. This one may make some sense).

While I have no objection to enworld opening up other web sites related to different systems I think its a terrible idea for what was-Eric's-page-is-now-called-enWorld.

If you (Morris) feel like exponentially increasing your workload and want to be a news site for all games then that's great. enWorld (as Noah's site before it did) provides and excellent and special service which causes me to come here just about every day.

To be blunt: A sizeable majority of people who don't play D&D hate D&D. I've actually played in D&D games with people who loath the game, desperately want to play anything else and are basically totally and completely set against it (even comments like "I think its fun" start off irritation and frustrating conversations).

Why does this matter?
The current plan (as I understand it) would be to have non-D&D info in a separate section. "segregated" from D&D stuff. That's not how a community works. This page works because everybody reads the first page and then moves on to individual interests (boards, reviews, links to other sites, etc). There will be a lot of pressure to force everything together or else the non-D&D players will feel discriminated against.
Speaking broadly D&D players are pretty tolerant. D&D doesn't require people to have a specific game world or genre. Everyone has house rules. Especially 3e had embraced the sort of "toolbox" method of game system creation. Very few people evangelize for playing in the "Graf-verse because itfs clearly superior". Its your own game most people accept this.
Unfortunately the sort of creative exchange you get when everyone operates under the same system (speaks the same language if you will) gets lost when people start argueing about whether you should be using a d6 instead of a d20 when you're talking about something totally different.

D&D is a popular game played by a pretty big fan base. Many of the people who play the game don't have a whole lot of other roleplaying hobbies in common (except maybe for miniatures, which by-the-way would be a great thing to do more with). Eric Noah's site was this. To put a point on it: I came here because I loved reading Eric's site everyday (OK I have no life...). I came here afterward because he said you'd do a good job. You have. Unfortunately putting more people under this tent is likely to make the whole place nastier and more unpleasant.
I've played a lot of roleplaying games over the last 15 years. Many of my best campaigns and experiences had nothing to do with D&D but everyone playing hundreds (more like thousands) of different worlds with ONE GAME SYSTEM is what makes this community special and different.
This sort of thing is a recent development for gaming; the positive effects it has on D&D players, and campaigns on the experiences of thousands of people world wide is more significant than I think most people understand right now. No matter what the idea is in the beginning this will ultimately change the site irrevocably and (from the standpoint of people who like D&D and play it) for the worse.

Since it sounds (unfortunately and lametably from my point of view) like you feel compelled to do this for some sort of ethical reason you don't want to explain its hard to really take this point further.

I think any changes should include a medium-term trial run. Once people get over their initial, "Oh no, they messed up ENWorld," fears and give themselves time to get used to it, it will not seem so bad. Then again, if it is bad, it will be easy to change back without too much fuss as long as the changes happen in manageable steps.

So what is the #1 non-d20 system out there anyway? And do they really not have a few leading websites of their own already?

I'd much rather see a new forum for each d20 game system (although I think there are too many of those already too) rather than non-d20 games for now. I'd like to see a Spycraft specific forum myself, but I think AEG is already doing or going to do that.
I'd look for any games that already don't have a good website out there first, or games that are too new to have a good site.

As almost a second thought, why not just provide a good links page for each game first. Including other RPG games would expand the news coverage on the front page--I think that would fragment the currently exclusive D&D/d20 audience to a certain degree. Nobody wants White Wolf news in their d20 news. But if you don't change the news page, then you aren't really covering the "other" games.
