Creating Mountains

I think I would have to bend toward realism here and rule that if they used enough Lava Burst spells centered in the same general area then eventually they could create a mountain.

Anyone remember the computer game Magic Carpet ? You played a wizard on a flying carpet and you could cast all kinds of überpowerful spells in order to eradicate countless hordes of monsters. (Very difficult in the last 10 or so levels).

There was a volcano spell that was very funny to use repeatedly on the same spot. You ended up with impressive, nearly tube-like volcanos that eventually "collapsed with the sky" (climbed up to the maximum height the game's engine could manage).

Also loved the "create cratter" and "create rift" spells. You could totally level a map with them (very useful to kill monsters in advance, as soon as they were summoned by the level's script, they were killed because they were 30 feet above ground).

Thanks a lot for the replies!

I loved that Netheril thingy, that's the kind of magic I want from my campaigns, I dislike the "the knowledge to craft these was lost in the older times" idea, I like my players to have access to high magic (but they'll have to study a loooot and research a loooot to get them, that means lots of adventuring for rare items as in 2nd edition)

The Raise Volcano seems great but it isn't permanent so it wouldn't be too much fun.

The ELH Raise Island is another great idea, I had totally forgot it.

And the Elemental Lords is the RP solution, I think I'll go with a mix of everything (maybe the Elemental Lords teach them how to learn the spell and they'll have to get permision from some deities, that's for sure).

Thank you very much :D

Glad I could help. And yeah using a lot of Lava bursts in the same spot MIGHT work to build up but getting Earth Elemental Lords to do it seems better.

I say use Animate Dead.

Raise half a dozen skeletons, and command them to start piling rocks in one spot.

Then go off and do something else for a few decades.

Yeah but then there's whole "adventurers come along and decimate your undead hordes." Kind of deal. ;)

Which undead are the adventurers going to go after - the ones who are slaughtering villagers and dragging off maidens for obscene rites, or the ones who are stealing rocks?

Stone shape would also help.

You could always convince a dragon whose dieing to become a guardian of the area and turn into a mountain (dragonomican).
