Along the bank of the river at the head of the waterfall are the challange grounds. This is the only legal place to duel in the city. There are three dueling areas, two are public, the last is reserved for the most formal of duels and is actually an Anti-Magic zone.

Because of the martial nature of the duels, seconds and substitutes are constantly in need. The city is a magnet for anyone who can fight well without using magic. All fighting styles are seen in these duels.

The city is heavily fortifed as it is a resupply base for forces and fortresses stationed in the mountains, guarding a huge plain, where a fallen empire was long ago . The plain is crawling with demons from the abyss.

The general theme of architecture is tall, comparatively narrow towers, with one or two bridges connecting to neighbor's balconies.

The towers, bridges, and balconies have given birth to a small group of acrobatic daredevils that love to run, jump, and climb between them. A few times a month they will play a game that looks like "Follow me" or "tag" as they chase each other through the upper portions of the city. They never get permission to do so and while technically they are breaking the law by treaspassing they are so populatr with the common folks that their antics are allowed.

The underworld of the city is controlled by a Guild of well trained Assassins and Rogues, known as The Shades, and it is controlled and run by a Vampire Lord, who is as old as the city.

One of the main export goods are crystals, used in magic artifacts. General magic level is high and magic very common.

At night, small crystals are used to illuminate the walkways, doors, bridges, and other areas of traffic. At night, the city lights up with an incredible display of arches of starlike spots of light.

The crystals respond to certain harmonics and there are bards who have incorperated the crystals into their shows and songs.

Given the nature of the city, the commander of the defensive forces longs to add an aerial unit to his roster. He will pay handsomely for any trained or trainable flying beasts. Anyone with applicable expertise is highly sought after.
