The oldest and wealthiest noble families of the city live in complex compounds, that consist of numerous towers connected by countless bridges, spans, and even underground tunnels.

Nobility is based on wealth but even more on the deeds of the family and the abilities of their members. A noble who is unable to stand up to the considerable requirements and expectations gets an assignment as a soldier in the most dangerous locations at the long walls around the demon plains. He is expected to redeem himself there or die in the defense of the country.

The City Watch and Guard is exceptionally well trained, as they are responsible for keeping the peace and protecting the citizens, and that means that often, they must subdue soldiers or other highly trained warriors, who may have had a bit much to drink, or are for some reason belligerent.

Also, were the City to be infiltrated by a demonic force that got past the forts, they would be the first ones to respond, before the military is able to take action.

The governing body of the City, also known as The Elder Council, is made up of 7 members, who are elected into office for a term of 5 years by the citizens of the city after a statutory period of 4 weeks of campaigning, which is followed by a statutory public holiday for voting. The present Elder Council will end its term in 12 months. The only requirements to stand for election is that you had to have been a citizen of the City for no less than 10 years, during which you spent 75% of the time residing and conducting your affairs in it than anywhere else, and your formal application to stand for election be supported by a present member of The Elder Council and a senior official of the City Watch & Guard.

Due to their traditional emnity with Demons Cold Iron weapons are highly valued and are worn by the nobility of the city as a symbol of their willingness to fight the demons at any time. A noble who did not bear either Cold Iron or a magic weapon is risking a reputation as a coward. Cold Iron weapons are not limited to nobility.

Demon parts are great for magical item creation and their is a small wizards guild that specializes in making items of demon parts. They pay good prices for demon pieces.

In an area of less repute dwell the smithys in the Soots District. This district is a rough as the smithys themselves and is looked down upon by most of the city dwellers of other districts. Along the river they slave in a cramped area that the city will allow them. Not much law enforcement make their way here, it is somewhat forgotten. Unwilling to share power, the city wont grant them guild status, citing lack of "intrest'. They resent the high standard of living that the rest of the city enjoys. Normal residents usually aviod this place citing it as low and swarthy.

Bars are common, alcoholism runs rampant and crime is beginning to boil with the resentment as an easy way out with some of the residents.

'Down with the soft-bottoms! Get the hammers!'

The main church of the city is dedicated to Xon, the All Seeing, god of protection and slayer of demons. The aasimar of the city claim that they are descended from members of the celestial host of Xon.

Magic and wizradry is a niche industry in the city with 2 well established and acclaimed arcane academies, the Arcanum Institute and the Mystic Foundation, serving as training colleges as well as centres for research and development. Recent research interests have been to explore and develop uses with the unique crystals harvested from the immediate region gievn the latent source of magic found in these crystals, popularly known as psi-stones and to harness energies from the elemental planes to generate energies to fuel mechanical inventions. The dean of the Mystic Foundation is Sithienn Quoram, a plane touched (air elemental) elven arch-mage, of great renown.
