I'd give the creature a +1 LA, though it might be a +2 (of course, if there is a doubt, it is better to use the higher number). Lizardfolk have a LA of +1, by the way, so a classless lizardfolk has an ECL of 3.

right, that's what i was thinking. do the caiveh really have more of a significant advantage than gnolls or lizardfolk?

Uhm, no? Actually, to see if it has an advantage over Lizardfolk you have to ask yourself the following questions:

1. Does it have more unbalanced ability scores than the afforementioned creatures.

2. Does it have a higher natural armor than the lizardfolk.

3. Does it have more natural attacks than the lizardfolk.

If you answered yes to any of those questions, it's LA should be +2, if you answered no to all the above questions, then the LA should be +1, it is that simple.

I'm using Soldarin's ECL calculator and really liking it. The ECL it came out with was a 3.3 which rounds off to a 3. So the LA would be +1

I gave Feral fury a minor ability bonus instead of anything else.

I did it again with the ananomite golden boy and got an ECL of +11 so that would be an LA of +3 (Cohort).

I didn't see anything fantastically wrong with this as it's large, stupid, and has a few tricks up it's sleeve for a +3 LA.

Gonna try this some more! neat lil tool!

did it with the bichir and it gave me an 8 ECL for it so a +3 LA (Cohort)

smilidon is an ECL of 9 with an LA of + (Cohort) it came out to be 8.9 on soladarin's system but i think the +2 is merrited here.

hmmmm this thing is pretty darn close to be the next best thing for ECL's i've sen.
