D&D 3E/3.5 Creature Catalog 3.5 Overhaul Project

which of those other feats would be best for this critter?

what ways would be best to rework its head-butt and poison abilities, if they need any work at all?

I'd go with Ability Focus (poison), as its Con score is unimpressive.

I think the head butt should be a normal attack, and make stun a separate ability.

Poison should be in current format:

Poison (Ex): Injury, Fortitude DC 12 (or 14 if you go with Ability Focus), initial damage none, secondary damage paralysis 1d4 rounds. The save DC is Constitution-based.

Yes, I'll go with that, a 3rd level character with a good base Fort of +3 will fail 50% of the time (assuming no Con bonus - maybe a bad assumption).

I agree, however...

In addition, the opponent will be stunned for that round and every round thereafter until he makes a successful Fort save (DC 12).
Now I'm not saying it's wrong to have the victim continually make Fort saves to recover from the Stunning effect, but are there any precedents? Doesn't Stun normally last for a set (or random) number of rounds?

that might be a problem... for a 1-HD creature with a big Con penalty. ;) i could foresee something with a -9 Fortitude save being unable to recover from this effect. :D of course, something with a Con that low will probably not survive the initial attack!

but then, there are advancement options for the fachan, and by raising its own Con score high enough a cruel DM could really exploit that... "You must make a DC 30 Fort save to recover, hahahahah!"

Ah! but it's a 1 always a failure and a 20 always a success? ;)

allright, allright, grudginly one round... ;) looks about right?

Stun (Ex): Living creatures hit by a fachan's head butt attack must succeed on a DC 12 Fortitude save or be stunned for 1 round. The save DC is Constitution-based.
