D&D 3.x Creature Catalog 3.5 Overhaul Project

When you put it that way, fey sounds like an even better fit. The calygraunt seems much more skill-driven than being a hp powerhouse.

and fey they shall be! It’s not a terrible drop in hp, and they don’t really suffer for the minor changes from a type switch, and they benefit greatly from the skill additions.

To be honest, when Scott (I think it was him) first converted this creature, I had my misgivings about whether or not it should be fey. But I was a lot less experienced back then, so I figured maybe magical beast was better after all. ;)

It is a bit of a "tweener". That's the nice thing about the conversion overhaul...it gives you a second chance to look at these critters through more experienced eyes.

yes sir! i knew some changes needed to be made, either to make them up to date, or because they should have been that way from the start. ;)

now,

Feystags are immune to all enchantment/charm and greater divination magic (and psionics which duplicate such mind-reading and influencing effects).

we need a 3.5 way to phrase that.

Think about this… wouldn’t that sentence make all the discussion of whether or not a feystag is affected by confusion or feeblemind irrelevant anyway? ;) how cwazy!

Here are a couple of options:

The unicorn simply lists in its SQ line "immunity to charm and compulsion". No furhter mention in the combat section follows.

The derro has, as part of its madness ability, "...immunity to confusion and insanity effects..."

I swear I've seen other creatures with similar immunity, but I can't seem to find 'em. :(

The shadow dragon doesn't appear to have that immunity, but the deep dragon does. All it says is "charm immunity" in its age category table. No corresponding description follows in the Combat section.

right, that's the dragon i meant. well, we could always take what has been done before and modify it for our purposes - always seems to have worked well in the past. ;) check some of our recent conversions, this sounds similar to something we have done before.

You were right!

The gacholoth has "immunity to charms" listed in its SQ line.

The dharculus has the following:

Immunities (Ex): A dharculus is immune to all mind-influencing effects (including charms, compulsions, phantasms, and morale effects.).

The nic'Epona has this:

Immunity to Charms (Ex): Nic’Epona are completely immune to all sorts of magical charm spells and effects, as well as any sort of magic designed to gain their trust or coerce them into doing something.

I think what the nic'Epona has is what we're looking for.
