Creature Catalogue Overhaul Project Revisited

Agreed, I don't want it to be DC19+Cha like the spell! Does it only kill one creature like the spell? i.e. the first to fail their save, starting from the closest.

The more I look at it, the better the banshee's entry looks. :) That one specifies how many can die.

A heavy warhorse plus armoured rider can easily weigh 1600-2000 pounds. Since fey tend to be a bit lightweight (slim build, dieting and mithral you know), how about 1500 pounds.

Maybe:

A shee on its mount are 9 feet long, with the top of the shee's head standing 8 feet tall, they weigh about 1500 pounds.

Looks good.

Are Bhaal, Cyric or Malar associated with a particular lower plane? If so, that might support adding Abyssal or Infernal.

I'm too lazy to pull out any of my Forgotten Realms stuff to check.

Bhaal has definitely been associated with the Abyss at times, and I believe Malar as well. So Abyssal seems a good fit.

That's awkward, because I'm growing to like the 3.0 Shee's version. :-S

Abyssal it is then.

Evil elves in D&D have long lent more towards Chaotic Evil than Lawful Evil, so it seems more fitting to me.

Let's try to combine the best of both writeups...

Death Wail (Su): A shee that is hit by any successful attack will utter a horrifying scream. This attack can slay up to X living creatures within a 60-foot spread centered on the shee. A successful DC X Fortitude save negates the effect. Creatures closest to the shee are affected first. Once a shee wails, it must wait 1d4 rounds before it can do so again, and it can wail no more than three times per day. Shee do not use this power intentionally, and only wail when harmed. This is a sonic, death effect. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Looks good, how about this for the Xs.

Death Wail #1 (Su): A shee that is hit by any successful attack will utter a horrifying scream. This attack can slay as many living creatures as the shee has racial HD, affecting a 60-foot spread centered on the shee. A successful DC 17 Fortitude save negates the effect.

That's half as many victims as a Banshee. If we want to match the Banshee's 18-killer, we could go:

Death Wail #2 (Su): A shee that is hit by any successful attack will utter a horrifying scream. This attack can slay up to 2 living creatures for each HD of the shee and affects a 60-foot spread centered on the shee. A successful DC 17 Fortitude save negates the effect.

At the moment I'm liking #2 better.

I agree. #2 is less likely to spin out of control. ;)

Updated.

Anything left for this one?

Looks good except shouldn't its Grapple be +16, not +18? (BAB +9, Str +3, size +4).

I'm also wondering whether we shouldn't quantify the "respect" of The Mark of the Shee. Something similar to a permanent hide from undead spell with a DC 14?

Good ideas. Let's make the save DC based off the shee that marked it, and set a caster level equal to the shee's HD in case it is needed.

All done?

I prefer my suggested DC 14, based on hide from undead being a 1st level spell and the Shee's 17 Charisma. Giving it too high a DC makes it rather too useful.

Also, I didn't want them to be invisible to the undead, rather that the undead can see them but don't bother them unless provoked. Come to think of it, a sanctuary spell is a better model for what I was thinking of.
