Creature Collection III Open Call

Questions about the CC3 Open Call

Hi SSS-Druid! :)

I have a few questions about the Open Call...

Well, here we are again, folks, coming to you, our number one source of great new additions to our Scarred Lands setting.

We are looking for your proposals for the Creature Collection III, to be released in 2003.

See the details at our website

Okay I just went over the submission details.

Creature Collection 3 Submission Information
Name of the Creature:

Description of the Creature: [Tell us about the monster in 500 words or less. Where is it from? What does it look like? Etc. You're not writing for publication, here, so be descriptive yet concise.]

Type: [Animal, Beast, Outsider, etc.]

CR Range: [The range of CR that this creature might fall in; give us about a three point spread — i.e. 4-6]

Am I right in thinking that you no longer want a full stat block (as was the case for the CC2 Submissions)? If so, what was the thinking behind that change?

Secondly, are we still using the same visceral naming conventions as last time.

ie. "Blood Beast" instead of "Bluttaken" for instance?

Lastly, what is the CR range for the monsters in the CC3? (1/10th to 28?) Will the book concentrate on relatively higher CR monsters (as per MM2) or will it still maintain a fairly regimented spread?

Hi S'mon mate! :)

Love the Iron Devil, even though its 'book' CR is way off - it's more like CR 13 than CR 10. I know this isn't Krusty's fault.

Easy tiger!

What the hell do I know about Challenge Ratings anyway!? ;)

I have some suitable monsters, especially for the desert. I was thinking of submitting my Krangar also, but maybe you have them already detailed for the IH Craig?

Go ahead.

You won't recognise what I have done with the Krangar anyway. ;)

I can simply change the name for the IH version.

Well I did it I gave my Dues and then some to

I submit my Dark Huntsmen tonight

And My Rock Naga, Phase Ripper, and Hart Warrior will soon follow

Well you said you rated it at CR 14, which is a bit high but near enough. I know the level 9 party I pitted it against had no chance! :)

When I submitted it I had CR 13 on it.

With the latest CR system it actually works out at CR 18 (= EL 19); however a party of four 9th-level characters would be (Party)EL 14*

*In fact probably higher given that you factor ability scores.

eg. You add +0.5 CR for every 5 points of ability score over 10.

I have some monsters I developed for a campaign and never used. However, I dont know much about the Scarred lands. I'll send them your way. The worst you can do is reject them...

Are your Dark Huntsmen based at all on the Black Cauldron?

I have been trying for some time to think of a good way to do Huntsman that wouldn't make them too complicated to actually use.

Sure, having some variety is nice, but if you need additional books to get into the setting, the setting becomes less accessible to newbies (or perhaps I misunderstood something and SRCS:Ghelspad is not the core setting book...).

It is but I wouldn't call it a book for newbies. I'd cal the SLCS: Ghelspad more for Dms and those that want a deeper understand. Newbie should probably get the Gazeeter for Ghelspad. That works better.

And personally, I think it is more interesting to fit the "standard monsters" into a setting in realistic and interesting ways, instead of requiring one or two books that only feature monsters. That's certainly the approach I'm trying with Urbis... ;)

Which is what CC1 will do. There will be blurbs about each of the MM/core monsters and how they fit into the setting.

A quick question, tho...

I use yahoo mail. It only allows me to send three attachments per mail. With my proposal, I have five. Do you want me to send them in a zip file? Or would you rather get two emails from me? If you opt for the seond, do you want me to make it three mails and send an agreement form with each?
