Creature Collection Revised Opinions?

Think you'll find that you don't have to worry too much about using the templates to "tweak" some NPCs. Certainly I didn't see any problems with Fatlings, Hags or Unhallowed.

Tweg,

I think you're missing out on the best aspects of the book since much of what was done not only to the CRs but the skill points and feats are better done.

Otu,

For using Hag Template on Piscian, I'd say they would go one size larger. But only because they are big. As for a Halfling Fatling, they would increase to Huge, primarily because Fatling are THAT damn big. Piscans probably wouldn't be able to survive the change into a Fatling mainly because they'd still be aquatic. But if you wanted to do that way, I'd say they would go one size larger than normal.

Is there anything missing from the book? For example, are the Exemplars (I think that's it) still there with their crazy monk like abilities? How about the demigoddess of dreams?

. . . But I still like CC R since this is home. This is where it all started. And I can't wait for CC 3.

Ditto! there is nothing like turning stone golems on those pesky clerics of Madriel.

Nightfall - is there any word on a release date for CC3?

Exemplars, Herald of Vangal and Drendari (demi-goddess of SHADOWS, not dreams) have been removed. I believe that's all.

San,

My understanding is that CC 3 is slated for release in December...but that could change. I'd bank on either Nov or December...possibly even January 2004. Some where between those three months.

Why were those three removed? Was it simply for lack of space or are they found in one of the other books? Or possibly they will return in CC3? I read through their descriptions not so long ago and found them rather interesting, so was just wondering why they got zapped.

On a slightly different note, I just picked up the DM screen (for the intro modules as I doubt the screen itself will be too useful for 3.5. Hmm...will there be an updated 3.5 screen sometime in the future I wonder?) and the Calastia book and have been enjoying them a lot so far.

I'll probably get the CC1R book at some point in the future, but as there's other SL books I still want, I'm just undecided about priority since I already have the 3.0 version. Decisions decisions!

I think order depends upon your campaign. Running the Serpent Cycle? I'd reccomend Hornsaw: Forest of Blood in a heartbeat. Plus, it's a nifty book. Of course, I've not read too many of the SL setting books that weren't fairly spiffariffic. Admittedly, I am an SL fanboy of sorts. Hollowfaust, Hornsaw, Calastia, Blood Bayou and Burok Torn... thusfar those setting books have been my favorites. Wilderness and Wastelands has become a highly invaluable resource as well since the party I DM for are willing to walk anywhere! Least used for me so far: Penumbral Pentagon, Secrets and Societies and Termana Gazetteer. Termana will get lots of use once my players get off Ghelspad, but if you don't already have it, wait for the Hardcover. If you don't have all the books you want yet, I suggest holding off on CCr since the changes aren't drastic and your campaign (I am guessing) is fairly new.

It's more because the Divine and the Defeated had updated stats for each of them (the "avatar" of Drendari and the newly made stats for Herald of Vangal) Also Exemplar got removed because the Player's Guide to Paladins and Monks make Exemplar a Pr-class. Of course if you're like me you sell kidneys a lot to get each one as quickly as you can. (Though quick for me IS a relative term. ;) )

In any case I DO agree with Harlock's assessments of Hornsaw, Blood Bayou, Calastia, and Hollowfaust. (Btw Har, check my link at the previous post! :) ) In any case folks I do think if you're a first time Dm, CC Revised CAN be helpful. But not always sure it's necessary. (Part of the fun isn't just the monsters, it's the magic, the rivalries between classes, and just plain old wilderness exploring FUN! :) )

the CC revised is on the growing list of stuff to get. it looks like its worth the money but I'll have to get by with my CC for now.

Nightfall - that "pimp-daddy" thing has got to go. it evokes an image with the elton john glasses an velour top hat that truely is the stuff of nightmares :p
