Creature-Controlling Spells (and Remembering)

Howdy.

When a character is brought under control of another being through spells, special abilities, etc., does the character in question remember what happened? What (if any) cases are there when the character does not remember?

Secondly, if the character under control did some action and was later put under a zone of truth or some similar spell, could the character truthfully answer "he didn't do it" when asked about said actions?

Thanks.

It depends. If the control is via a Summon Monster spell, than the creature does not remember. If it is for any other reason, then yes, the creature would remember. Of course, if the effect specifically mentioned they wouldn't remember, then they wouldn't.

No, because he did in fact do it. However, he could truthfully answer, "I was forced to do it." If it was from a source that he couldn't remember (i.e. Summon Monster) then yes, he could truthfully say he didn't do it.

The spell does ensure that the truth is told, only that a person in the area cannot tell intentional falsehoods. If you truely believe what you are saying is the truth, then you can freely say it.

There is a nice (?) spell in Rokugan, though: Truth is a curse. While under its effects, you must not only speak truth, but must blurt out everything you think about the subject. This can be very annoying, and in Rokugan, where an insult can mean dishonor - and you being forced to commit seppuku (ritual suicide) to restore it - this can be deadly. Just picture this: you're under this spell, and a other lord - whom you think is a poor warlord - asks you what you think of his latest tactics....
