Critical Role has released a new trailer for their upcoming fourth campaign. The trailer, embedded below, lays out the overarching premise of the plot, as well as a look at the full 13-player table that will participate in the early parts of the campaign. The trailer not only explains the background of Araman, a world whose people overthrew the gods 70 years ago, but also hints at more recent conflicts.

A description of the show notes that the show opens with the planned execution of a person named Thjazi Fang. His scheduled execution leads to three groups coming together to seek the truth behind his grim fate, spinning off into its own series.

As announced earlier this year, Campaign 4 will feature three groups of players simultaneously exploring the world of Araman in what's described as a West Marches-style campaign. Early episodes will feature all thirteen players, but the show will eventually break the groups out into smaller tables, although there will still be some crossover between the groups.

Critical Role's fourth campaign starts on October 2nd.

Watching those early games, it’s just very obvious how much tension there is at the table with Orion around versus after he left.
Yeah, some of their anger seems to come out of nowhere, which speaks volumes about there being some OOC issues that already have the players on edge / tired of his crap. Though there were also plenty of legit moments of tension, like the famous time Tiberius argued with Scanlan about swapping items - a moment that is both hilarious and tension building because you know he was pushing the issue too dang far.

Posting an animated version for reference:

Okay, that video is hilarious!

And the sucky thing is, if he wasn't being dead serious, that WAS funny! It's just...man, you know that he was totally trying to beat the game at all times.

I definitely have questions about how things were with Orion around the table BEFORE the show. Did the show, and the potential to ham it up for a valuable audience, bring out these play issues or make them worse? Were they already there but took on a toxic dimension in a public forum?

They didn't have video evidence if him cheating: you can see them sort of figure that out and start watching for that within the first few episodes.

I honestly think they would have tolerated the cheating, if he wasn't also being such a massive spotlight hog.

The rest of the group was really good about sharing the spotlight, making sure everyone had their turn, etc. He didn't, every interaction HAD to be about him. The rest of the cast was having a hard time with that, on camera.

The thing to remember is they played together for years prior to the stream. It’s doubtful that Orion suddenly changed his personality and playstyle because of the stream. If the rumors are to be believed, there was some drug use involved, abuse of fans, and a whole lot of pure business.

The one that I think really tipped things in a bad direction was him tapping out of the Beholder fight because he supposedly thought the fight was designed to kill his character or make him look bad.

Something happened during the stream itself . If you back and watch it’s obvious the rest of the cast was tense around him and I think Matt was the only one who was saving him.
Once he was gone it really felt like the whole cast got to shine . He’s not mentioned in the animated series or even Dragonborn?
The actor tried to do his own playthrough but it didn’t go anywhere with the same Dragonborn and I’m speculating that they have no contact with him but who knows

Popular theory is that Orion was first to realize what gold Critical Role struck and that's when he became the spotlight hog, trying to become THE main star of rising super popular show. The fact he infamously threw a fit on twitter about fans making shirts with Tiberius quotes shows he may have thought of this in terms of brand first.

CR will not address the Orion situation, ever. However, he has discussed having his own personal issues to work through at that time that were making it difficult for him professionally. And there have been some unsavory allegations about aspects of his conduct that I don't want to go into but are out there.

I also believe that Geek and Sundry basically insisted he go, and the rest of CR agreed.

So it goes way beyond his conduct at the table.
