Prime Video has announced that The Legend of Vox Machina has been renewed for a fifth and final season. The popular animated series, which is based on Critical Role's initial Dungeons & Dragons campaign, will wrap up its storyline over the course of two seasons. The already announced fourth season will air in 2026, and Prime Video announced at San Diego Comic-Con that the show would be picked up for an additional season.

The fifth season will focus on Vox Machina attempting to stop plans to bring The Whispered One (an analog of Vecna) to the Material Plane. Season 1 antagonists The Briarwoods were acolytes of The Whispered One and had started a ritual of some kind underneath the city of Whitestone. The past two seasons have focused on the Chroma Conclave, a group of dragons that terrorized Tal'Dorei and conquered several of its major cities. However, the Whispered One's return was teased with the final scene of Season 3.

I see the whispering one and think Paizo and their Whispering Tyrant, another lich in a couple AP, 1 prominent, another kind of involved (been a while since I was playing and subscribed to their APs). I haven’t watched much past the start of season 2 but need to catch up on a bad weather binge weekend at some point.

This is good. I've always said the show needed 5 seasons to tell the story decently. Not that it couldn't squeeze things into 4, but 5 was the optimal number to do justice to the campaign.
