More generally, you can only crit with a spell that a/ requires an attack roll, and b/ deals damage (including hit point damage, ability damage, and negative levels).

As Patryn notes, CLW only fits those criteria when used against an undead creature; against an elf, for example, it does not deal damage, and cannot crit.

To add: It *is* possible that, somewhere, somehow, a designer or DM will design a creature that acts similarly to undead as far as normally-healing spells are concerned, and against such a creature one could score a critical hit with a CLW spell.

Until then, however, the "needs to do damage" clause will prevent healing spells from scoring critical hits.

It's worth noting that the reason this only works on undead, and not a commrade, is that a critical can only happen when using a touch spell that deals damage.

Hmm, read the Libris Mortis (grammatical excuses, bah) yesterday, there's a feat that allows you to be cured by inflict spells and be hurt by cure spells...

So you could CDG a guy with that feat for autocrit damage to heal him ;)? Guess not cause against him you don't cause damage...

Ooh, good point. We should have mentioned that earlier in the thread...
